Chapter 7
Chester’s POV
He was hanging out with the guys again. That’s all he seemed to do. They were playing around in an indoor basketball court since it was raining out. He leaned back against the wall as he saw Dave sinking shots from behind the three point line. He’d just gotten back inside from taking a smoke. The other guys didn’t know about it yet and he didn’t plan on telling them. The nicotine was what was helping him get through everything.
“Hey Brad, have you ever seen someone shoot it from full court? And make it?” Dave called from the other side of the gym. Brad rolled his eyes.
“No I haven’t. What does that look like?”
“It looks kind of like this,” Dave called as he ripped the ball as hard as he could towards the net. Chester watched it fly and only make it about three quarters of the way before falling short.
“That was excellent. Great job,” Joe said as he grabbed the ball and tossed it over to Rob. Rob grinned and shot the ball.
“Hey Chaz come on and play,” Dave said waving him forward. Chester frowned. Did he really want to play? It was his birthday and spending time with the guys meant a lot but he really wanted to spend time with Mike. He had a feeling that they were trying to make him forget about the fight he’d had with Mike but he wasn’t going to. He sighed and pushed himself off the wall.
“You know I’m not good at basketball.”
“Yea I know but I’m not a great singer either and you made me do that a few days ago,” Dave smirked.
“Dave you sang? Holy shit can we hear?” Rob asked. Chester grinned back at him.
“Yea Dave, let’s hear it. Then maybe I’ll play with you.”
Dave stared at him and sighed before throwing the ball over to Brad, “Really guys?”
Chester nodded, “Yea.”
Dave groaned but then sang the same song that he’d sang to Chester that other day. Chester smiled and closed his eyes before joining in and putting more emotion into it than he ever had. The room was full of their voices echoing around it. When it was done Chester gave Dave a smile.
“Isn’t he good?”
“Wow man. Where did you come up with that?” Rob asked.
“I don’t know. I just thought of it,” Dave replied. Chester smiled and then joined them on the court to throw the ball around. He found himself having a great time. He knew they should probably be working on other things. They should be writing those songs for their new album. But today just seemed like a day they needed to have fun. He caught the ball from Dave and Rob grinned at him.
