Mafu, now elated by the fluffy-sounding name he was given, was barely able to focus along the way during their flight towards the cloudy landscape. After a short one-sided debate from his companion, who he now calls and refers to as Soraru, the latter ended up having to hold his hand as they soared through the sky. Mafu didn't trust himself to be able to have a safe and steady flight either, so it was best for Soraru to guide him, like always.
As they ascended with the winds, his mind traveled all the way back to when Soraru gave him a name. Mafu, he liked the sound of it. Something in him jumped in joy upon listening to his name repeat over and over in his head. And Soraru, he would definitely never forget that name. It fit the boy's naturally aloof personality and striking appearance. His eyes resembled that of the clear skies that they were flying in right now, and his hair was a deep blue that Mafu couldn't help but feel fascinated in every way that he looked at it.
"Mafu, your grip is loosening."
A smooth voice instantly cut through his train of thoughts. Once he focused at what's in front of him, they were already preparing to land on what looked like a bed of green grass; embellished with a burst of white, yellow, and red blossoms that gave it life. Soraru was first to land as he let go of Mafu's hand, and when the younger was just about to lose his balance since he was left in the air, Soraru was just in time to catch him by the arms and help him in having a safe landing.
The grass felt softer, warmer, though there was no sun. Mafu couldn't help but notice every single detail he came across, everything and anything he saw was able to make his heart jump for some odd reason, and realizing that made him look back to when Soraru described him as.. what was it? A moth, or something that sounds alike to it. It was a foreign word to his ears.
"There." He assumed that he was just as lightweight as he thought back when he glided down to his first winged light, since Soraru was able to lift him up by the arms without any effort, "Later, I'll let you fly on your own. I won't always be there to assist you."
Of course, Mafu was still yet to receive more and more lectures every time the older boy would feel like helping him.
He nodded wordlessly, immediately latching himself to the raven-haired boy so that they would hold hands again. As Soraru watched him do so, a sigh left his lips, yet he showed no intent of breaking contact and only dragged the younger one along with him. They slipped through the gap that separated the two boulders in front of them. Mafu was able to feel the sunlight seeping through, and eventually, they made it to the other side.
Everything looked completely different. The sky was much more blue, endless, and flying creatures chirped about as they flapped away above them. Instead of pleasant solitude, there was life to be seen everywhere. There were a lot of vivid colours that his eyes weren't used to seeing, and plenty of brightness and splendor all around making him cover his eyes with his arm. Soraru didn't seem too fazed, he must've already been here countless times before.
Mafu, however, was taking in every detail from his surroundings as much as he could.
The sunbathed grass felt warmer beneath his bare feet, some of the taller weeds were able to reach as high as just two inches below his knees. When he and Soraru jumped off of the ledge they stood on, they were met with more grey silhouettes walking around. Some played curiously on the small pond, others were lighting each other up with their own red candles, and a small few were conversing in unintelligible chatter that Mafu didn't want to bother prying into.
"Don't mind them. They're just like us, and you don't have to light them up like you did with me earlier."
Soraru whispered to the younger boy, who only kept his gaze to a certain greyed figure clumsily staggering towards them with a red candle on their small hands. Mafu was quite the curious one as well, and though he wanted to light the mysterious figure up back, Soraru only pulled him along and brought him to the pond, completely ignoring the person that came up to them just now.
