Mist and clouds had gathered upon the touch of dawn as its pastel colours met the sandy barrens. In every direction of the peculiar grey blue tempest, laced with white, it blends into the horizon with the same hue, cool and unyielding. The monsoon wind playfully pushed against the dusty particles of gold, letting the grains of sand smother and scatter around the rare rocky formations to be found.
The tides surrounding the isle rose, waves rocking nothing yet seemingly strong and able enough to fling a soul with its briny waters. The farther gulls are tossed in a storm, though it never reached the surface and caused harm to its fictitious inhabitants. Without the overcast clouds, the malevolent eye barely covered by the puffs of air masses would have glared upon the rolling hills of searing sand.
Amongst the blankets of lavender and gold, a lone physique of what seems like a child's is to be seen, laying on the sands with its head resting comfortably on his small, cupped hands. A tall hill caused the thin rays of sunshine to scarcely come into contact with the child's surroundings, setting a peaceful and lulling ambiance that only helped in bringing a sense of comfort to the small being's slumber.
How innocent and sweet, his chest rose so slowly and soft snores occasionally escaped through the small gap of the hard, golden plate that covered his face. Then, though there wasn't any nearby sign of disturbance that could've possibly taken fault in waking him, two dots of light blinked rapidly once the being had fully awoken from his nap. Curiously, they scanned over the area, taking every detail of anything that's around him to at least attain a thought of where he could possibly be.
No, that wasn't the only important question at hand.
The child nearly lost his balance, but was quick to recover as he got on his knees, and stood up. Grains of sand and dust each fell to where they belong, and his toes had only managed to get used to the strange feeling of the coarse ground he stood on. He inspected the odd material that hung on his petite frame and covered his torso, sleeves reaching until his elbows and some other fabric that covered each of his thighs. What were these? His hands then moved to rub the skin of his limbs, moving upwards to his shoulders, until they touched the plate-like object that obscured his vision and concealed the frontal side of his head.
What was this? Or, to further quell with his worries, what was he? Who was he?
And where was this place? Why were his thoughts barely even existent yet confusing? Why and how was he here, all alone and cold and... having a lack of purpose?
His hands went down and felt the flimsy fabric with his nimble fingers, crumpling and taking a fistful of it just to please the smaller portion of his unanswered questions. No matter how small, the child observed everything of the deserted barrens that he found himself waking upon. There wasn't a sign of a particular direction that he was supposed to take, other than the rather obvious path laid before him that led to what seemed like a cave.
With every step the small being took, he picked up the rather consoling warmth of the sand tickling his toes, and the wind behind him almost whispered to him to continue moving forward. Was this where he was supposed to go? Was there something waiting for him if he followed the wind's murmurs?
And so he trudged on the sloping, rocky staircase, mindlessly looking over at the endless horizon of the sea. It made him wonder not about the strange place he was in, but about himself. It didn't feel like there was anything or anyone else like him walking around, only the wind and the sun were there as his only guides to wherever he was destined to wander.
As his thoughts dwindled back into confusion, it was too late before he soon found himself slipping clumsily as he slid down the steep slope that he failed to notice beforehand. A small noise came out from him before he fell face-planted on the sand. It didn't hurt, there was something protecting his face after all, yet a displeasing feeling was in his chest upon knowing how inattentive and careless he was.
