Third Person POV

The memory came back to replay in his head, the vivid image of a small, raven-haired child playing in the backyard by himself showcased inside his mind.

The young one wasn't smiling, and only looked at the stuffed teddy bear that stared back at him with lifeless eyes as they laid on the sandbox, unmoving. He remembered that he wasn't even that interested in stuffed animals, or cars and all kinds of toys for kids his age. He was never entertained by toys, or by anything, really. The child could only think and imagine, but all his thoughts and colourful imaginations could easily get wiped away once the idea of reality enters his head.

He couldn't say much about his life. Just plain, boring, blank and filled of black and white and grey colours. Growing up in a broken family, he wasn't really given the best life, nor did he have the best experiences as he grew into a toddler, into a child who's supposed to only care about his wants instead of the world's future.

It wasn't different. He saw the rest of the world like he's always had. Vile, cruel, unjust, discriminatory, and those weren't exaggerations. It was reality, and the face of reality has always stuck to his mind ever since his parents got divorced. His perception of the world and society has always been different compared to the other kids', and it worried his mother.

He wasn't special, though. It's just how he's grown to look at his surroundings. Even the beautiful melodies of the chirping birds and the contagious laughter from the other kids didn't change his vision of all the negative and disgusting things that inhabited the very ground he stood upon. The songs from the birds were easily morphed into the loud crashing of glass bottles on the floor, while the sweet giggles from his friends could be heard as cries for fairness and justice in his head.

"There will always be darkness in the world, Sora-chan. But even in darkness, you can spot the smallest speck of light." was what his mother would always say to him as she gently combed his fluffy hair. Well.. it was true, but the darkness will always overpower that small speck of light, and that small speck of light will eventually blend in with the darkness, it won't last being the only speck of light when it's completely surrounded by darkness.

Maybe that's what happened to him early on. Maybe he was that speck of light who did its best to remain positive even when his parents fought continuously, every night, every day, until they both got fed up with each other.

Or maybe it's just his pessimistic thoughts acting up again. He didn't really like to associate himself with bland, depressing thoughts.

Soraru stared at his textbook with blank eyes, hearing everything around him yet didn't bother to at least listen. They didn't annoy him, but they didn't amuse him either. Their history teacher kept babbling and babbling about the various historic events that happened in the 1560s, which he didn't care about.

One could say that he lacks emotions. But to him, they're just a big pile of messed up feelings, impossible to sort and impossible to put back together, like a puzzle that only consisted of one colour and nothing else. He can feel emotions, but he didn't know how to show them. He's felt anger before, along with sorrow, shame, despair, disappointment and fear.

Ah... but maybe he just feels a certain type of emotion.

Right, he's experienced love before. He loved his mother a lot, he loved her more than any other stupid human in the world. She gave him a lot of emotions and knowledge, she raised him with determination and love even through the tough hurdles she had to overcome.
