"Hn... c-cold.."

A tiny body laid upon the bed of tall grass, trembling and shivering all over from each raindrop that landed on its bareback. In a forest, separated from its skulk, the lone pup shuddered underneath the gloomy sky, the leaves of every towering shrub and tree that mocked its misery, serving no help from its purpose to shelter the poor thing from the storm.

It had woken up just recently, only to be met with the damp soil that had dirtied its fur and muddied up its formerly pure white coat into an unappealing mix of grey and brown. Ears flattened back on its head, the tiny pup let out a pathetic whimper when the thunder boomed in the sky, his thoughts infested with assumptions of how he could have possibly angered the gods with his pitiful existence this time.

It squinted its eyes open as an attempt to take a better look of its surroundings, searching for any source of warmth or heat it could possibly temporarily cuddle up to until the rainfall ceases, yet to no avail. Even with the given circumstances, the filth-covered pup stood up on its shaky legs and went on a search for anywhere he could take shelter in for the meantime. It was soon to fall ill from the rain and from forcing itself to move its tired body, yet it was a far better idea to move somewhere safer and not let the sky rain on him any longer.

Crunch, crunch. His tiny feet stepped on the dried leaves, yet they were hardly noticeable to the ears due to the heavy rain. Each raindrop that landed on its body would send shivers down its spine, but the tiny creature persevered and eventually, the poor thing was able to find a large oak tree after not more than two minutes of searching. There was a perfectly conveniently dug-up hole just around its roots, and the small space didn't seem to have any creature residing inside of it nor did it seem like the rain would be able to reach him from underneath.

Hurriedly, the albino pup forced its body to move until he was able to smoothly swoop straight through the hole, unable to take the chilly air any longer. It curled up on itself and began to let out small cries, an attempt to attract any other fox of its kind to pick it up, but the rainfall only overtook the pathetic volume of its tiny wails.

Soon the fox grew tired, and its crying eventually died down as exhaustion began creeping back up its senses. Everything grew darker, and darker. Before its consciousness was carried away by slumber, heavy footsteps were all that its ears last caught amongst the continuous pitter-patter of rainfall.

Amidst its sleep, the pup shifted in discomfort; soon then, it was able to find a comfortable position. Somehow, the soil he was sleeping on didn't feel too damp anymore. The environment felt a little too soft, and everything around him felt warmer, comfier, and it enticed the small fox into snuggling closer towards the unknown force that radiated more warmth for him to accept.

In his current state of consciousness, he could barely make out what's currently happening with him and his surroundings. If anything, he wasn't even sure if he's dreaming or not. Everything felt too warm and comfortable to be real.

"There there, you've probably been sitting under the rain for quite a while now, haven't you?"

The fox rubbed his face against some soft material that was keeping him warm. As damp as his white coat may have gotten, he was a little too stuck in dreamland to be distracted by it from the warmth that was now enveloping him.

"I'm sorry I took too long this time, let's go back home."

Before he knew it, it was already morning. The storm had gone by when he had been woken up by the sun's warmth greeting his face. He could no longer hear the heavy rain around him nor could he even feel the damp soil that he once last found himself sleeping on.
