"Ms. Fawley," the Fawley's family house elf pips, "your Hogwarts letter has arrived."
Annalee Fawley could lie with a smile and say that she was oh, so sad to leave home. But that was the wonderful curse of the Sacred 28: The way they keep magic in the family is that they foster a love for it. They convince the children that purebloods are better and that magic is only there for them.
Annalee isn't sure how she feels about that. She doesn't like some of the people that drift through her house. She doesn't like her father's sharp tone or her mother's severe words. She doesn't like that she can't go anywhere alone. She doesn't like being tutored alone. She doesn't like the word mudblood, which is tossed around like her father yells (which is to say, a lot).
The beautiful thing about toxic households that don't harm their children physically is that they aren't fully aware that what is happening to them is so bad. They think that not crying in front of people under punishment of being stripped of all rights is normal. They believe to their core that screaming insults and demeaning words is the correct response to adversity.
But Annalee, or Anna, has always been a smart girl in some respects. She has always been ambitious and her accidental magic has never seemed too accidental.
She can't pinpoint just what's wrong, but she knows something is.
She's just so excited to leave. So, she begins to pack.
