November 1st.
That morning, when Annalee Fawley goes into the boys' dormitory to wake Sirius up, a couple tears are streaming down her face.
"Princess?" Sirius probes. "You alright?"
She nods shakily, "It's just so... perfect."
James springs over and nods vigorously. "We just listened to the new Queen song."
"It's out?!" Sirius gasps, now fully awake. "I thought it came out tomorrow."
"No, it came out yesterday. Bohemian Rhapsody may be the best thing I've ever heard," Anna says happily, wiping at her tears.
James flicks on the radio.
The melodic voice of Freddie Mercury belts, "Mama just killed a man!"
"I might have to marry him, Sirius. Sorry," Anna says plainly.
James raises an eyebrow.
Ginger's voice from the doorway rejects, "Not if I marry him first. I swear to God, I don't even care anymore, I'll fight you, Annie."
At breakfast, Alice murmurs to Dorcas, "I guess they're together. I really thought it'd only take them until the end of last year."
"How much were we betting they'd be back by the end of the year, Ally? Five or ten galleons? Either way, I win," Dorcas smirks. "Ha!"
The two pick up their books and walk away.
Later, Ginger and Lily are watching Sirius and Anna bicker in the Great Hall, arguing over whether or not there should be a genre of food that corresponds with breakfast.
"She's giggling," Ginger whispers to Lily in horror a, only a couple feet away. "Never, in the months I've known her, has Annalee Fawley giggled."
While some students are staring, most feel like it's normal. It's the past couple of months that felt weird, not now.
Lily nods, "This is what happens when she's with Sirius and they're happy. It makes us all feel like we'll be alone forever."
Across the table, the blonde shakes her head in a laugh. "Are you telling me pizza isn't an acceptable breakfast food?"
"Of course it is. Because it is a breakfast food," Black persists, look deadly serious.
"You can't be serious," Anna raises an eyebrow in skepticism.
"Actually-" Sirius begins.
Anna holds up a hand, the pained look of regret apparent on her face. "Don't... even."
Sirius's expression is so filled with smugness, Lily thinks that Anna might slap him.
"It's sort of sickening. But in a good way," Lily murmurs in wonder.
Sirius turns to them. "You know we can hear you two, right, Evans?"
"Irrelevant!" Ginger exclaims. "Annie, you comin' to potions with me? Please say yes, I didn't do the reading last night and I need a partner."
Anna nods, "Of course. Let's go. Bye, Pads."
"Bye, Princess!" Sirius calls after her as Anna loops Ginger's arm in hers and the two skip away.
Lily slides across the table to where Anna was just sitting, a stupid grin on her face as she says, "Yay!" Not squeals, but close.
As Sirius rolls his eyes, James sits down next to him, gestures to Lily, and says, "What she said."
