AMARA CABOT

The funeral went smoothly. No interruptions or disturbances.

I had glanced over at Alec at least a thousand times since the ceremony but he seemed unbothered, his gaze fixated on the speaker or Yas. I don't know why it hurt my heart to see him with her.

I was waiting around the reception, Joey asleep in my arms while Finn stood next to me by the entrance, "I don't know why we had to come, we hated the guy." Finn whispered. I shrugged, "It's called paying our respects, Finn."

I saw Giovanni make his way over to us, placing his hand on the small of my back, "You guys okay?" He says. I nod, "Funerals just give me bad memories that's all." I laugh fakely, remembering my parents funeral and how much I hated it.

"Yeah, sorry. But Alec said I can take you guys home if you're ready!" He said. I nodded my head quickly, "Yes please. This guy is heavy and I can't feel my arm anymore." I smiled.

The keys jingled in Giovanni's hand as we made our way over to the car. We climbed inside, I placed Joey in the back seat before getting into the passenger seat next to Finn. "I don't want to go back to school." Finn groaned, "Well too bad. You're going. Only two more years until you graduate." I teased.

Finn rolled his eyes, not amused, "It just sucks. I know everything. I'm too smart for all my classes." He huffed. I looked at him through the rear view mirror, "I know bud. I'm sorry. I can't afford a private school otherwise you know I would." I said. He nodded, "I know Mar." He smiled.

It was a quiet drive back to the house, surprisingly seeing Alec's car already back in the driveway, "That was quick." I mumbled, "I wonder if Yas is here too." I mocked, rolling my eyes.

Joey had woken up and rushed inside, throwing his coat and shoes off and leaving them on the floor. "Joey." I called, bending down to pick it up. I heard his giggles before his feet clambered up the stairs. I sighed, picking them up and hooking them onto the car rack before placing his shoes by the front door.

"Marco!" I said quickly when I saw him walking down the stairs, "What." He groans, "Where's Alec?" I asked. He shrugs, "His office with Yas. They're in a meeting."

I sigh, "Okay, never mind then." I slumped, giving him a half smile before walking past him, "Is there something you need?" Marco asks me.

I turn back, smirking, "Are you offering, Marco?"

"Don't think this is a regular thing. You look all depressed." He grimaced. I laughed, "It's nothing. I'm just wondering something, that's all."

"About Alec or about Yas?" He asks.

"What?" I say.

"What's on your mind?" He asks.

I was about to tell him, but decided against it. He's been friends with Alec longer than anybody, I don't want to burden him with my stupid feelings, "Nothing. I'm just bored. Thank you anyway."

He nodded and we parted ways.

However, when I passed Alec's office, I heard laughing and clenched my fists. Stupid Yas. I hate that bitch. How dare she!

All I wanted was to go in there and slam her head against a wall. But she's had combat training, I haven't. She would probably kill me.

But before I know it, I'm knocking on his door.

"Amara?" His voice says. I look up at him, "Are you okay?" He asks, "I-" I was lost for words, "Yeah. I- came to see if you were okay. But, you have company. So I'll come back later." I smiled, seeing Yas's glaring eyes bore into my head.
