ALEC ROMANO
I had stared death in the face before, but it was never this close.
And never by a family member.
I knew my Uncle was a cold hearted killer, but I never thought he'd be the one to kill me.
"You say I'm the traitor, uncle. But you're the one going against our mafia motto." I seethed, watching his every move, "I thought you never killed family."
"You broke that rule when you killed your father. I'm simply following your rules, nephew." I growled.
Both of our guns were pointed and hadn't been lowered since, they hadn't even moved an inch.
"You have one last chance. You can either come with me to London, or I can kill you."
I turned my head ever so slightly to try and look at Amara, however I did a double take when I realised she wasn't there.
"Amara?" I called. This time, I was the bigger man and lowered my gun. But so did my Uncle, as he searched for Amara.
My eyes widened and I almost screamed for him to stop when I saw James sneak up behind Mattia with a knife to his throat. And he was almost successful until Mattia put him in a choke hold and the knife clattered to the ground.
"Nice try." Mattia laughed, squeezing James's neck until he went red.
"Thanks."
I spun around to see Amara holding a gun between her hands. I turned back to James who had a weak smirk and Mattia who seemed shocked.
Mattia's gun was lying flat between us and I was quick to get to it and kick it away. It slid along the dirt path and I heard a soft splash in the water below.
He glared at me and released James's neck, surrendering his hands.
"You're not gonna kill me." Mattia smirked, "And why's that, hmm? You've done nothing but torture my family and I." Amara growled, "Because, you're a pussy. If you kill me, this will haunt you for the rest of your sad, miserable life."
"I'd rather this haunt me than live a life where you're still alive." She hissed.
"Go ahead then, I'll wait, you don't have the guts." He shrugged, his eyes twinkling with something murderous.
"Funny thing is- that's the same thing Alec's father said to him before he shot him dead. Who says I can't do the same?"
I was surprised by the ringing in my ear. I was surprised Amara managed to shoot him at all.
But what shocked me was the four other bullets that pierced my Uncle's skin as his lifeless body fell to his knees before he began to bleed out.
"She's an Angel with a Shotgun." I smirked, firing one last warning bullet into Mattia before putting my gun back into my holster.
"We did it!" I exclaimed, a wide smile making it's way to my face.
"Not so fast." An Irish accent cut me off, "The diamonds. You promised, Alec."
Sam, had turned up with two men behind him. And fair enough.
I nodded, "Um, James." I said. James stood up, holding his neck before reaching into his back pocket and pulling out the diamond necklace, "Sorry it's not in nicer packaging. I didn't really have time to make it look all pretty." James joked.
Sam gave him a light smile, "Tis alright son, I just want this bastard thing destroyed before it hurts any other lives."
I blocked my sound-damaged ears as Sam used a round of bullets on the diamonds. When the smoke settled, a million tiny pieces of dark green diamond scattered the ground, the chip nowhere to be seen.
The two men behind Sam came in with brooms and sweeped whatever they could into the water below. Sam shook my hand, "Thank you. And, sorry for everything with your family."
Once they had gone, I stared back at my Uncle, who's body had turned white already. I pulled out my phone, "Get me clean up crew."
Once that had been settled, I tried to call Giovanni and Marco one more time but there was no answer. I sighed, hoping for the best.
"Amara." I called for her and turned around. She was sitting on the ground with her head in her hands, "Amara, it's time to go." I knelt down beside her and gently touched her elbow.
She flinched and pulled away from me, "D- don't touch me." She sniffled, and it was then I noticed the tears in her eyes. I grew worried, "Hey, what's the matter?" I asked softly, "Just get away from me!" She hissed, standing up and walking the other way.
I went to go after her but felt a hand on my wrist, "Just leave her be man, she'll be fine." James said quietly, "She just killed somebody for the first time. It's a lot to take in." He said.
I nodded and sighed, "Yeah, okay. You're right, yeah."

I had arrived back at the house only a couple minutes ago, it was nearly dark.
The house was deadly silent.
The roof was broken and missing some tiles, the floor was covered in water, the stairs were on a lean and the whole place was just a mess.
"Esther? Yeah, I'm good. How's everyone over there?" I asked, my voice echoing throughout the silent foyer, "It's safe to come back now. But, can you do me a favor and call Pavlon, the house is in desperate need of a wee touch up, thanks."
I put my head down and closed my eyes, rubbing my temples.
It was so weird not hearing any noise.
Until shoes squeaked against the floor and I looked up. Relief spread through me as I practically pulled Giovanni into a hug, "You have no idea how happy I am that you're not dead." He laughed.
"I'm glad you're alive too." I said, "Where have you been?"
"I managed to escape and when I tried to go back, the whole place was filled with water. I tried so hard Alec, I really did." He said. I nodded, "It's okay, as long as you're safe. Have you seen Marco?" I asked.
"Last I checked he was with you."
My phone buzzed in my pocket and I pulled it out, "Speak of the devil." I said.
"Marco, are you okay?" I asked.
He spoke quickly on the other line, "What is your location right now, do you need pickup?"
Thankfully, he wasn't too far, "The door is unlocked for you."
When I hung up, Giovanni was sitting on the stairs, "What is the matter with you?"
"Is Amara..."
"She's alive." I said. Giovanni put his head in his hands and sighed, "Thank God. I was so scared."
"Is the water still rising?"
Giovanni shrugged, "I am unsure."
When the front door clicked open and Marco's disheartened figure walked through the room, Giovanni and I were the first to greet him. He was tired and misplaced, but he was alive.
"Where did they take you?" I asked.
"They tried to take me somewhere in their car, but I managed to jump out the back. We were in Washington by the time I got out. I spent like three hundred dollars on uber man, I'm sorry." He apologised, "It is okay! I'm glad you're both safe."
Once we got the formalities over with, it was back to being serious.
"Look, I don't know if that water is rising all if it's stilled. Either way, we can't stay here." I said.
"Grab whatever you can and meet me back here in twenty minutes. I'll have people in to look at the house and it should be sorted by next week."
"What do we do until then?" Gio asked.
"We'll- figure it out."
