ALEC ROMANO
I can't believe I'm going to be a Dad.
Amara sprung the news of her pregnancy on me over dinner and it shocked me, I had to get out of there.
I know it was wrong, hence the thousands of calls and texts from my Mom and the others.
But I just needed time to process it.
I don't know how to be a Dad, my Dad was hardly a father and he wasn't even mine. I don't want to fuck up.
I tip toed through the house.
All the lights were off and the house was tidy.
My dinner and a piece of pie was wrapped up and sitting on the bench. I smiled at the thought before making my way to the stairs.
I signed, pushing open my bedroom door.
Amara was laying on her side, eyes shut, sleeping soundly.
I felt terrible about running out, she'll think I don't want this. But I do, I want a family because I never had one.
I just didn't expect it so soon.
I took off my shoes, shirt and jeans before slipping into bed beside her.
She stirred slightly and I stopped, before she continued to lay silently.
My head hit the pillow and I was already tired.
I wrapped my arm around her waist, hesitating before resting my hand on the smooth patch of exposed skin.
I rubbed her stomach, nuzzling my head into her back before I found myself dead asleep.

When I woke up the next morning, I was alone.
Amara's side of the bed was made and my arm was slung underneath her pillow. Where could she have gone so early?
I got up, stretching my limbs before looking in the bathroom.
There were three positive pregnancy tests sitting on the sink. I picked one up, admiring the very visible blue lines.
"Amara?" I called, no response.
I called for her again, searching the house, "She's outside." Giovanni said to me.
I looked him up and down, at his casual attire.
He was wearing black jeans and a white shirt with just vans on, "Where have you been?" I asked. He shrugged, looking up from his phone, "No where. I do have normal clothes you know, not just suits."
I laughed, "Whatever man."
I looked outside, where Amara's tan body lay in nothing but a bikini on the outdoor chairs. Joey and Finn were in the pool, with two other people.
I opened the sliding doors, "Morning." I said.
Amara lifted her head, "Afternoon."
I glanced at my watch and surely enough, it was one.
"Who are you?" I said, turning to the new girl and new guy in my pool.
"Be nice, these are my friends." Finn said, "You have friends?" I mocked.
"Hi, I'm Olivia." My eyebrows raised and I winked at Finn, "I'm Chase."
"Nice to meet you both. No sex in the pool house, anywhere else is fine."
"Alec!" Amara laughed, "You. Come here, we need to talk."
She sighed but got up anyway.
I pulled her toward the house, "Look before you say anything- I just want to say I'm sorry." Amara apologised.
"You have nothing to be sorry for. It takes two to tango, love. And I'm pretty sure we both contributed." I smiled.
"I'm sorry for just springing it on you. It's not fair what I did, but I didn't know how else to tell you." She sighed, rubbing her eyes.
I took her hands, kissing her knuckles, "I don't know how I would've acted if you hadn't told me at the dinner. I'm just glad you told me." I snorted.
"So... what do you wanna do?" She asked me sheepishly.
"Oh, we're gonna have this baby." I winked, "I will take care of us. I never had a good father figure so I can't promise anything, but I'll try my best."
Amara blushed, "That's all I'm asking."
She smiled at me, her eyes flashing with sparkle before she hugged me, "I love you."
Every time she says that, it makes my heart flutter. I hugged her tighter, "I love you too."
"It's going to be a boy by the way." I winked, "No way. It's gonna be a girl." She giggled, "It's a boy."
I placed my hand on her stomach, "Yep, I can feel the penis from here."
She slapped my hand away and laughed, "Disgusting."

At dinner that night, I was happier than I've ever been.
I've got my friends and family surrounding me, I'm about to start my own family, what else could I ask for.
"We're not calling the baby Giovanni Junior." I growled at Gio, "Okay, but what about Gianna if it's a girl?" I was about to protest, but I actually liked the sound of the name.
"Maybe." I said.
"I don't know about you guys but I'm excited." Amara smiled, pushing her empty plate away, "I think it'll be exciting. And good to have another girl around."
"It's going to be a boy!"
I was proud. I hadn't seen Amara finish a full meal in ages, well, she is eating for two now.
The sun was setting over the hills with an orange glow as we lounged around the hills.
Amara was splashing with her brothers while Giovanni floated on his back, Joey kept trying to drown him.
"She needs friends, Alec." Marco said, interrupting my train of thought. "What?" I questioned.
"She needs friends. You can't just keep her locked in this house with nothing to do, even you know that's not right." He said.
I sighed, "I know that. But I don't like her being by herself. I know we're safe but what if something happens."
"What's going to happen? You are with her most of the time. Or Giovanni and I. She will be fine."
I shrugged, "I don't care if she makes friends, I just want to make sure they're not fake."

After going inside after tanning by the pool all day, Amara came in giggling.
"What's gotten you so happy?" I asked, placing down my book.
She flopped onto the bed, her hair sprawling over me, "I have the worst tan line ever!" She whined.
She showed me the thin line from her bikini strap and then started rambling about some cheese she was craving.
But the whole time I couldn't stop staring at her smile.
I think we're gonna be alright.
