AMARA CABOT
I began to feel nauseous as the car sped all over the place.
"I thought you paid everyone off?" I said to Alec, climbing back into the front seat, "I did." Alec exclaimed, "The car belongs to the Irish." Marco says through the phone, "They must've figured out the diamonds were fake." Alec mumbled.
"What are we gonna do?" I asked.
"The cars have to run out of gas eventually."
"We are not driving until the cars run out of gas!" I said annoyed, "What do you want us to do Amara? We're stuck."
I shrugged and slid down into my seat, "Do you have the diamonds on you?" I asked. Alec nodded, "Always."
"Where?"
He nodded to his chest and it was then I noticed the shiny dog-tag. I unclipped it from his neck, my brain bouncing side to side as Alec drove carelessly.
The micro-ship was crystalized and engraved onto the necklace.
"Stop the car Alec." I shouted, "What? No."
"Stop the car or I'll jump out!" I threatened.
Suddenly, he slammed on the breaks. The car jolted into us before it reversed back.
I hopped out, Alec not far behind me.
No one was on the bridge due to roadworks so if anything happened, at least no one else would be hurt, "You lied to us, Romano. Just like your father." A voice said.
Alec stood in front of me as the guy pulled a gun on us. Alec pulled one from his side. I knew he'd always carry it with him just in case, but it doesn't make me feel any better.
"Drop the gun or so help me God I'll-"
"You'll what? Call you men? You don't have an army anymore." The guy chuckled.
Alec stayed quiet but stood his ground, his arm steady and firm as he aimed the gun.
It was a stand off.
I tried to move but Alec placed his hand on my stomach. For a minute, I revelled in how that felt.
I haven't told him I'm pregnant yet.
Shaking my head, I tried to move again, "Stay where you are Amara, do not move." He told me.
"Give us the chip or she dies."
He pointed the gun at me and Alec fired a warning shot into the sky, "I said, drop the gun."
"Would both of you just chill out, please." I said.
"Amara." Alec threatened.
"I have the chip in my hand. So you either both drop your guns and listen to me or I swallow it. Easy as that." I yelled, raising my voice to hopefully sound intimidating.
"I trusted you. You and your stupid alliance, I should've known it was a ploy." The guy looked familiar, and I knew he was the one who trapped me in the cellar. I didn't know his name though.
"Do you really think I'd trust you with the chip? For all I know, you were going to set them all free to make your army even bigger."
The guy laughed, sending shivers down my spine, "I hadn't though of that. But when I get the chip, I know what I'll be doing next."
"Thats it." I mumbled under my breath.
"What are you doing?" I heard them say.
I pulled the metal dog tag off the chain and it dropped to the floor.
Both boys dove for it but I crunched it under my foot. There was a satisfying crack before I picked it up. "You stupid bitch! What have you done?" He cried.
Anger rose in my system as I held the broken piece in a fist.
Before he could say anything else, I walked over to the edge and released my fist, the broken pieces flittering down into the water below us.
The Irishman had a look of death on his face as he charged toward me, "I don't think so." Alec said, stopping the guy.
"Do you understand the damage that whore just caused."
Alec's calm facade was now replaced with red. His fists clenched at his side, "I told you what would happen if you came after my girl again, and you did it again. I warned you, O'Connor."
This 'O'Connor' guy didn't seem the slightest bit intimidated.
"The chip is gone and we're both free. Now take your stupid ass away and never come back, got it? That chip was doing nothing but causing rifts between everybody in the mafia world, you should be thankful it's gone." I growled.
"Muzzle your bitch, Romano. That just cost you a lot."
With that last word, Alec punched O'Connor, causing him to stumble, "Watch your fucking mouth you piece of shit."
Alec punched him over and over until blood was spewing from his mouth. He had lost teeth and his nose was severely broken, "Amara get back in the car."
"What? No, why-"
Alec raised his gun and I knew why. I nodded, turning around so my back was to him. I blocked my ears as the sound of a gunshot flew around us.
I could just smell the faint scent of gun powder over the salt water of the rushing water below us. "Can I turn around now?" I asked.
When I didn't hear a response, I did it anyway.
I almost gagged at the site of O'Connor bleeding out on the road.
The light was gone now and the only light that was around us was the moon, lights of the city and the car headlights, "We need to roll him into the ocean, quickly." I say, blocking my nose from the smell.
"What?" Alec asked.
"It takes less than twelve hours for all fingerprints and DNA to be wiped from a body while in salt water and two to four weeks for a body to decompose. If we throw him now, he'll be so far out in shore that they won't find him for at least three days. By then all evidence leading to us will be gone."
I tried to bend down and begin to roll him but Alec took me by my elbow, "You're amazing, you know that?" He laughed, kissing me softly. I kissed him back, "What?"
"I can call clean up crew." He joked.
I shrugged, "It's more fun this way."
After we rolled him, there was a thud on the water before the slightest shadow casted and you could barely tell it was a body.
"I can play dumb but I sure as hell know how to put up a fight." I winked.
