AMARA CABOT

The house was infested with people. Light chatter and stern faces.

I haven't been told anything aside from why. And even that I can't understand!

I stay by Alec's side, walking behind him like a shadow, making sure I don't get kidnapped or killed or something.

"What's going on Alec? Why are all these people here?" I ask in a small voice, trying not to look noticeably terrified. Alec clears his throat and takes my elbow lightly, shoving me behind a corner of the house, "We found something. In your grandmothers house. The dead body had a symbolised tattoo and it means we're under attack again." He said in a hushed tone.

He licked his dry lips and I made contact with them, looking back up to his eyes, "Again? What do you mean again?"

"Lets just say that we have a few sworn enemies and they're wanting to make themselves visible in our lives again. It's going to be fine, we just need to think of a way around it."

He was stressing.

A nervous habit of Alec's is to rub his thumbs and his forefingers together. He was avoiding eye contact, and he's licked his lips four times.

"Hey." I said, grabbing his hands in my own, "It's gonna be okay." I whispered.

He looked into my eyes so intently I felt like he could see into my soul, "How do you know that though? How do we know anything." He groaned, running his hands through his hair.

"Because you're you. And I know you can do this."

"Alec." Marco's voice interrupted.

We pulled apart quicker than lighting, "Yeah?" Alec said.

"We're ready." They both exchanged a nod and a silent eye before he left the space.

Alec turned back to me and I sucked in a breath, bracing myself for whatever's about to go down.

"Now you-" He paused, tucking a strand of hair behind my ear. It was a nice gesture, made me all tingly, "Need to keep your mouth shut."

I frowned, he smiled.

"If you say the wrong or if you move too quickly those people out there won't hesitate to shoot you." He said abruptly. I shrugged, "As long as you get shot first so I have time to run away." I tried to joke.

His hand stayed on my face and I leaned into his touch, savouring it before we needed to step out, "Okay, come on. We can't keep them waiting."

Alec led the way as we stepped out into the foyer, taking the long hallways to another room I'd never been in. It was huge. Tall ceilings, carved pillars, paintings on the ceiling.

I gawked around the room, feeling silly for never admiring the amount of detail put into Alec's house. We walked along a banister-bridge type thing. The silence the only thing unsettling my stomach.

Our footsteps were heard as the carpeted flooring did nothing to quieten them.

Alec suddenly stopped as did I and he turned.

Hundreds of people dressed in black with gnarly scars, big guns and combat boots were staring up at us. I felt so many pairs of eyes shift to me that I squirmed in my spot.

I looked back to Marco and Giovanni who stood professionally behind us, arms crossed over their chest. I looked at Marco who just nodded, "Behave." He mouthed.

I turned back, seeing people whisper to the people beside them.

"... Is that her?"

"I thought that was a rumor?"
