HAZEL –
Sympathy rolled off me in waves, no doubt something Zoe would be pretty annoyed about if she saw me now. I had a frown planted on my face and probably looked deep in thought.
Her father caused her death. That’s a horrible way to die.
An audible sigh came from the other side of the cave. “If you’re going to feel all upset and what not than please do it outside”
“Sorry Zoe, it’s just… You blame yourself for Bianca’s death don’t you” I whispered.
“Her death was my own fault. She was an amateur, barely a day over thirteen and yet, I was the vessel that took her to the grave too early” Zoe replied.
“You guys got out but how? I mean, you weren’t in Tartarus-”
“No. Have you been to the Underworld?”
I shook my head. “No”
“You see, there are three gates. Elysium, Asphodel and the Fields of Punishment. The Judgement Pavilion is not too far from there either, where souls are judged on what they did as humans or what they did as a demi-god” Zoe began.
“Where did you go?” I asked.
“Elysium thankfully”
“Please, continue” I said respectfully. Hoping no to get someone like Zoe angry.
“The gates are usually watched by skeletons, Hades little minions, and occasionally Cerberus; the three headed dog. Well, rumours were around saying that Hades was missing. Conveniently, there was a seer in Elysium, a very old one but a seer all the same. I asked her if it was true and she muttered some weird thing about Gods disappearing and chances to get out. I found the entrances after a long time and came across Silena and Beckendorf”
“We both wanted out so we did exactly that. Walked out. No Cerberus and no skeletons. It was weird. We just bounded out of the Underworld and wound up here”
“So others might be out?” I asked.
She nodded gravely. “I don’t think Elysium was the only gate left unattended too”
A loud scream pierced through the night. A females or Franks, I thought teasingly. “Zoe, what was that?” I asked.
“Silena” Was all Zoe said before throwing her quivers on her back and her bow in her hand and racing out of the peaceful cave. Following her, I jumped over rocks and tree roots, with my spatha in hand I felt protected. But my walls of safety were breaking down as we started to pass stone trees and bushes.
