Cynthia still hasn't stirred and Freddie was getting tired. He decided to get into the hospital bed with Cynthia and go to sleep. He really wanted to be there when she awakened and be the first person she sees. He kicked off his shoes and socks and unbuttoned his pants. At the same time a nurse came in and stared at Freddie.
"What?" he said, "I was just going to get into bed with her, I need to be there when she awakes."
The nurse just nodded and Freddie slipped under the covers and nestled against Cynthia, she was warm and comfy, he loved her but he was going to lace it into her when she was able to take it.
Freddie snuggled closer to Cynthia and fell asleep immediately. He always slept well next to her.
A nurse came in a 6AM to take Cynthia's vitals. Her cart contained a blood pressure cuff, a thermometer and a little paper cup with 2 pills in it.
"Mr. Mercury" the nurse said quietly, "you have to get up and out of the bed for now."
Freddie stirred and stretched realizing where he was and got out of bed. The nurse turned around because Freddie was sporting an enormous morning wood. He quickly put his pants on, gathered his shoes and socks and left the room, but not before giving Cynthia a kiss on her forehead.
"Miss Lewis, time to wake up" the nurse said as she prepared a cup of water for Cynthia to take her pills. As she turned back to Cynthia, she frowned that the patient hadn't moved a muscle.
Meanwhile Freddie had to find a bathroom and put his socks and shoes on. He wanted a shave, but that would have to wait, bathroom first, cup of tea next and then back to Cyn. Freddie got his tea and a bouquet of yellow roses and made his way to Cynthia's room only to find a commotion outside her door. There were doctors, nurses going in and out of her room.
Freddie dropped his flowers and tea and ran towards the room. He grabbed Dr. Atkinson and demanded to know what was going on.
"Freddie, calm down, clam down. We are trying to find out whats wrong. Cynthia appears to be in a coma!" Atkinson said.
"A.a.coma? What? How?" Freddie yelled.
"We don't know, we are going to find out" Dr. Atkinson said pulling himself out of Freddie's grasp. He pulled Freddie towards a seat, sat him and told him to try to calm down. Freddie jumped up and ran towards the desk and asked for the phone. Before looking up, the nurse said to use the pay phone. Upon hearing Freddie's "shit" she looked up and said, "oh, Mr. Mercury, so sorry, here, press 9 before dialing." Freddie just glared at her as he reached for the phone.
"Bri, get the guys and come to St. Thomas Hospital. Cynthia is in a coma and no one knows from what. Please come, I need you all." Freddie asked.
Freddie got off the phone and searched for Dr. Atkinson. He found him conferring with other doctors and burst into the conference.
"What the fuck is going on. What's wrong with her?" Freddie cried. Atkingson left his colleagues and put his arm over Freddie's shoulder and said quietly, "we are performing tests. We don't know. There is no reason for this to happen. The minor surgery to repair the rip and restitch was quick and simple."
"Dr. Atkinson" Freddie said with tears in his eyes, "tell me she'll be okay."
"My boy" Atkinson said, " we are doing everything possible to figure out why this happened"
"Dr. Atkinson, I can't lose her, I love her." Freddie quietly.
"I know Freddie, I really know."
"I want you to sit down and compose yourself. When she awakes, she will need you. So please sit."
The doctor left Freddie with some hope with a nagging feeling that Atkinson gave him some doctor "speak." He sat for a while with his head in his hands.
