"Yes Freddie, have them release Prenter and can you, Cynthia and Queen fly back to London? This has all the earmarks of becoming an international incident and I would like you all safely back here where I can keep an eye on you and arrange for security if needed" said the Inspector.
"You're letting Prenter off?" Freddie cried into the phone.
"Of course not. He will be released and we will have a tail on him. If the Yakuza are involved in this drug trafficking, it is a far greater problem than originally thought. Hopefully, Prenter will leave us to the "kingpin" said Sir Peter.
"Okay, but I hope I can get Cynthia to come back with me. She has her business here in the States and you know how stubborn she is" Freddie said.
"Freddie! Use your wiles on her, I know you can. She cannot stay in America while this investigation is ongoing. Do what you have to do, but bring her back with you" Sir Peter implored.
Freddie hung up and sighed. How was he to do it? He thought long and hard over it, what were his options. She had to return to London for Live Aid, she could open an office in England, and of course, well, he could marry her!
Hmmm, marry her! Of course, I want to marry her and I guess this will be the push I needed to do so. But how, I need to buy a ring, a grand gesture, if you will.
Freddie rang for his driver to pick him up in 10 minutes and take him to Cartier. When he arrived, the manager came rushing up to meet him and the patrons in the store moved out of his way. It was like Moses and the parting of the Red Sea.
Alain Dominique Perrin greeted Freddie like a long lost brother. They had previously met at London's Cartier and a business relationship was fostered.
"Freddie, my friend. It's so good to see you again. What can I do for you?" Alain asked.
"Well, Alain, my friend, just between you and I, I am getting married and I want something spectacular in the way of an engagement ring."
"You certainly came to the right place. Come into my special viewing room, and I'll present you with some suggestions."
Alain spread out the diamonds on a black velvet tray and Freddie gasped. "Wow, I feel like Marie Antoinette perusing all her jewels" Freddie said as he clapped his hands.
Freddie made his selection followed by asking if he had any gold and onyx bracelets. Freddie loved that combination but was always losing or breaking the one that he had.
