1983
Cynthia had taken her third cat scan and waited for the results in Dr. Connelly's office.
He entered his office with her folder. Her eyes meet his and he cleared his throat and immediately Cynthia felt a chill.
"Cynthia, this is very strange. Your node has grown but I still don't believe its cancer. We are going to have to go in, biopsy and perhaps remove the growth, but we need to know what this is."
"When do I need to do this?"
"Well, as soon as possible."
"I have to clear some things at the office first. I'll need a week, is that okay?"
"Yes, that's fine."
After making her surgical appointment, Cynthia returned to her office.
She buzzed for her team of Rosalie, Karen, Scott and Ryan as well as for Michael Ranier. Even though Cynthia considered Michael a prick, he knew his business and really had the welfare of Cyn, Inc. at heart and she could trust him, with work that is.
"Listen guys, I have a bit of a problem. I'm going in for surgery to remove that node from my lung. They don't know what they're gonna find so I want to set up some instructions and parameters for you. Michael, I'll leave you the list of all my upcoming appointments and you can rely upon my team. They know everything and will certainly lend you all the support you need."
"Cyn, you know we have had our problems in the past, but you also know that my heart is with the company. I won't let you down." Michael said softly.
"I know you love the company Michael and thank you." Cyn answered, feeling a little relieved.
The week went by in a flash and Karen drove Cynthia to Mount Sinai Hospital. Cynthia went thru triage and waited for the nurses to take her to her room. In a few hours she was wheeled into the OR and met with Dr.Connelly.
An IV was set up and the anesthetic was administered thru the line. Just before Cynthia slipped into unconsciousness, her last image was that of Freddie's eyes.

Cynthia started to stir and Karen, who had stayed by her side, ran to get the doctor. Dr. Connelly and a nurse walked and checked her vitals. Her eyes started to open and squinted at the sunlight streaming in from her window.
"Cynthia" Dr. Connelly asked, "Are you in discomfort?" Cynthia nodded and pointed to her throat.
"Ah, okay. We will begin to remove the tubes from your throat. You were intubated before surgery," he explained.
They removed the tube and immediately gave her a little ice to ease the discomfort in her throat.
Dr. Connelly sat at the edge of her bed and explained that they removed the node and it was completely benign and that they want to radiate to remove any particles left after the surgery. "It really is an easy procedure and you will not feel anything," the doctor explained.
"When" Cynthia asked breathlessly.
"Actually, now. We do it while surgery is fresh," he responded.
"Ok." She replied.
