Note: The name Banner and Marvin are used interchangeably depending upon Freddie's mood. They are both the same person. Normal, everyday, down to earth Freddie used the name Marvin. Rockstar, angered stage Freddie resorted to Banner. Just thought I would clarify this a bit, it may be confusing. As a side note to all those virginal ears, Freddie is dropping the F-bomb quite frequently in this chapter. You are forewarned.
Freddie's POV
Oh, it's morning! Damn, I forgot to close those drapes. Wow, New York sun is brutal on wake-up eyes. It feels so good to stretch, hmm. It's so early but I've got to get out of bed and go to the hospital before rounds. Oh, I feel like staying in bad, I'm quite tired after last nights love making. It's hard giving it all and not getting anything back, but it was all for Cynthia.
It'll be nice being there when my lovey wakes up. I can't wait to get her on the plane and back to London. Cartier said they would courier the ring and we can discuss wedding plans. Omg! I keep forgetting, I'm going to be a father. Me, Freddie Fuckin' Mercury a father and Cynthia doesn't know, hmm, I'll tell her today. My God, me a father. I can't imagine. I can't picture it, I don't know anything about babies. How to hold them, play with them, oh, good Lord, changing diapers. YucK! Not for me, I will never, ever do that. What, sully my hands with baby's poop, never. I hardly tie my own shoe laces, I don't even drive, God, I'm such a diva.
Oh, what would Mary say, after all, she is my dearest friend. I really am a prick. She offered to have a child with me and what did I tell her? I would rather have a new cat. How did she ever stay with me for so long, oh...dear... she didn't. Oh well.
Shit, I'm nervous, well who wouldn't be, huge secret keeping her pregnancy from her. Flowers, yep, flowers, a big fucking bunch.
"Phoebe, wake up, tea! Now!"
"Banner, up"
After showering and dressing quickly I walked into the dining area of the suite and saw a plate of cheese biscuits, a banana and a cup of tea. Banner was already sipping his coffee and picking on his croissant. Nobody gets my cheese biscuits, they are all mine. When Mama makes my biscuits, I give each one in my household two and I keep the rest. It would be tantamount to WWIII if anyone tried to take more.
"Phoebe, wait for my call, notify the boys and then start packing because we should be leaving today" Freddie called over his shoulder as he and Banner left the suite.
On the way over, Freddie asked Banner if he was married to which he replied, "No Freddie, my line of work doesn't bode well for marriage."
"What about you Freddie?" Banner asked
"No, not yet, but in the foreseeable future, yes. Cynthia and I."
"Well congratulations Freddie, she seems like a very nice person."
"That she is Marvin, that she is." Marvin smiled at this and couldn't make Freddie out, but that wasn't his job to analyze, just to protect. He protected many highly profiled celebrities in his time, but never one like Freddie Mercury. He likes him well enough, that much was true, but he seemed to have multiple personalities.
They arrived at NYP and parked in the circular driveway.
Head down, sunglasses and baseball cap on, Freddie and Banner made their way to the florist shop now opening and asked for large bouquet of roses. Knowing her penchant for yellow roses, a double bouquet plus , perhaps a small stuffed teddy bear saying congratulations, to go along with it. He left it up to the florist to arrange them both as he stepped out for a smoke with Banner. There seemed more hustle and bustle in the hospital today with an inordinate amount of police scurrying about. Well, the more police, the better, considering what was happening in both their lives right now.
