The glasses of mimosas were out, and as La La Land played in the background, Greta disclosed all that she could to Dana.
She told her all about her breakup with Julien, about how she caught him in his office with his secretary just hours before they were supposed to board a train to Napa Valley for the week. And as much as it pained her to do so, she even revealed to Dana of their plan to get back together in December after they've gotten all that they could out of their systems and were ready to fully commit to each other.
As of now, it was Dana that knew more than everyone else, more than even Cora at this point. It was safer this way, it felt like enough of the weight had been lifted off her shoulders. And knowing that Dana was going to be the less judgmental out of everyone, she was kept from feeling anymore guilty about it than she already did.
But even as the alcohol torched through her bloodstream, and the melodies of City of Stars became a little fuzzy, there was still one thing on her mind that lingered with aching, one that even Dana was aware enough to acknowledge.
"So what are you gonna do about this Eli guy?"
Greta's eyes narrowed to focus in on the conflict at hand. With a heavy, buzzed out sigh, she only managed to shrug some. "He's gonna get bored of me soon, so I'll just ride it all out."
Sitting next to her on that couch, Dana shook her head in disbelief. "You're thinking too little of yourself. From what you've said, this guys all over you."
"He's all over me now..." Said Greta. "Look, we're just in the butterfly stages. Soon will come the arguments and he'll find himself annoyed with me, or I'll do something that'll-"
"Okay... Okay this is where you stop."
"But it's true."
Dana gave her a confused glance. "How? You were never the one to mess things up with anybody. I mean, yeah you're a little too impulsive for your own good, and you tend to overthink things on a grand scale. But none of that means that you shouldn't swear yourself off of anything good."
"Okay so say I do. Say I actually give him a chance to accept me and all my flaws. There is still the matter of timing that's at hand. And when December gets here, what am I suppose to do then, huh?"
"Well, is Julien really worth it?"
Greta's face construed itself into a stupefied expression. She looked to Dana as though she were a stranger, unaware of the last seven years that were her relationship. "It's not just Julien, okay? It's our history. I was supposed to be married by now, a kid in the other room. All of my plans have been put on hold an getting back together with him fixes those plans."
