THREE MONTHS LATER...

It's been a long day and the sales have gotten worse these past few days, unlike the time when I got employed here. The single, old woman who helped me find a warm place to stay and a job with reasonable salary is now staring on her plate of sliced ham sandwich with lettuce and sunny side egg with all the invisible boulders weighing over her shoulders.

Or at least, that's what I'm getting from the gloomy aura around her desk across the narrow but fifty-square-meter long establishment.

"The bills this month are higher than expected and the farm is getting worse." She sighed deeply as she lift every piece of folded papers lying over the wooden counter. "If only the flowers bloomed as much as they always do, we would've sold a lot last wedding season and I would've managed to save the extra on times like this."

I put down the small pot of pink and reddish Camellia shrub on the white, tiled floor and proceeded to make a cup of tea for her at the kitchen upstairs. While waiting for the pot of water to boil, I calculated how much money I will need for the next month and gave the rest of my savings—I hid under my mattress because I never trusted banks—back to her to help with the electric and water bills.

It's been three months since I escaped Alucard's manipulation and she was kind enough to trust my sobbing narrative of being chased by my psychopath boyfriend and saved my life in the process so I think it's about time to return the favor.

"My child you do not need to do this I'll just loan in the bank for the meantime." She cheerfully smiled and gave back the folded paper bills onto my palms. "You need that money more than an old lady who has no family."

"It's alright. I wouldn't have a job if this place ends up closing in the near future anyway. And I love this place." I approached and hugged her to at least make the elder feel needed. Her last phrase wasn't entirely true since her only daughter—older than me by a decade and married to a foreigner—is very much alive but lives on the other side of the world.

Their past issues leveled the lack of communication between them to the point she didn't get to talk with her twin grandsons for five whole years and it's honestly heartbreaking to see her trying to put up a happy mask for the sake of her clueless costumers.

"You're so sweet (Y/N). I promise I'll give you a proper raise when things get better."

"I probably should consult anyone knowledgeable about the problem at hand." I suggested and took a sip of my getting cold tea. "There must be someone in the Cityhall who have seen this weird phenomenon. I'll look into it first thing in the morning."

"You don't have to. I highly doubt there's a deep reason why the flowers have wilted besides the unpredictable weather."

I only nodded in response, however, that doesn't mean I agree to her statement. So later that night, after I ate dinner and took a shower, I contacted our female neighbor; the only person I know who works in the Cityhall as a clerk and asked for a favor to get a pass inside the public library at the left wing, to search for old newspaper clippings.

There was a mountain-high pile I found, going back to Fifteen and Fourteenth Century. I got so curious, that despite the eerie vibe of the empty, long yet narrow library, I remained calm as I spread the newspapers over the long, old wooden table. The chair creaked and echoed across the room as soon as I dragged it's legs backwards to sit.

I figured the digging would take till morning so I was about to make myself a cup of instant coffee from a vending machine near the sliding door but a tall, raven, longhaired man dressed in a set of fancy dark grey suits stood before me and asked, "who are you and why are you still here after office hours?"
