"Duchess Ackerman has arrived!" A guard announced as I walked up to the entrance, mentally preparing myself.

"Lady Y/N! You've made it!" An overly sweet voice called out to me interrupting the tense silence that had fallen over the gathering as I approached.

"Princess Hitch," I acknowledged her greeting, nodding in her direction.

I have enough status to not bow.

Don't back down no matter what she does.

Right I don't have to-

"Come, sit, we were all waiting on you," she shot me a brief look of disdain before gesturing towards the long table.

"I apologize for making you wait, Levi had something to give me, that must have held us up." I beamed in her direction, taking a seat someone had pulled out for me.

"How is the Duke?" An unfamiliar face spoke up, causing a chorus of murmured agreements and other questions to fill the space.

HELLO ! HOW ARE YOU ! WHO ARE YOU ?

"Lady Kline is correct, I haven't spoken to Levi in awhile- how is he?" Hitch pressed, cutting into one of the cakes.

he's totally fine- it's me everyone should be worried about

"Levi is fine although I am quite worried about him," I paused letting out a long wistful sigh, "he says that he isn't busy when we spend time together but he must be. I'm worried that he's neglecting his duties so that we can spend time together."

"You're lucky to have someone as kind as the Duke as your partner," a woman with long dark hair, who I recognized as Freida one of the many daughters of the Reiss family beamed in my direction.

If I'm not mistaken her cousin is the 2nd princess-

and her father is a marquess-

Levi isn't on good terms with any of those households-

but she seems nice enough <3

"Yes, I'm very fortunate," I beamed back, busying myself with the food laid out on the table.

I'm starved.

Hitch maintained a smile on her features, turning away from the current conversation.

That's a relief.

It's not like she's done anything new, she's acting the same as in her letters.

It's just tiring-

It'd be best if I wasn't super antagonistic to her

"It's a bit boring talking about your husband all the time, isn't it?" Directly across from me sat another familiar face, the third princess, Annie, regarded me with a bored expression.

"Annie, have you tried the cakes yet?" Hitch glanced over at the two of us, in confusion.

Right-

The first three princesses are close.

They've always participated in events with each other- which means that the 2nd princess is probably also here.

"If you're wondering where Historia is- she felt under the weather, otherwise she would have attended," Annie muttered taking a bite of the aforementioned cake.

ah- honestly that's probably for the best

"You seem very close to the Duke," she continued, "it was certainly a surprise hearing that that man had gotten married."

"You're right, your engagement was so sudden, Levi is a very private person but it was still alarming that I hadn't heard anything about you from him prior to your engagement," Hitch rejoined the conversation.

from what I understand you don't have much communication to begin with-

"It's embarrassing but I didn't want news of our relationship to get out before anything was made official," I paused shooting her a shy smile, "truthfully I was worried of your reaction but you've been so supportive, you have my thanks."

"Of course! Levi is a close friend, how could I not be supportive?" she continued to beam, her tone darkening.

"I'm sure he appreciates it."

"Will you be holding a gathering soon? It's your duty as the Duchess after all," she hummed, "I will be sure to attend when you do- if you need any help arranging the event I would love to help, as someone more experienced my advice will be valuable."

"You're already being so generous I don't want to ask any more from you."

"No, I insi-"

"Duchess Y/N, if you wouldn't mind I would like to take a walk around the gardens with you," Annie interrupted, standing up abruptly from her seat.
