your eyes are a simple
brown.
they are not blue, they do
not remind me of the sky.
your eyes are an ordinary
brown.
they are not green, they do
not reflect the beauty of all
the pretty trees.
your eyes seem to
decorate ninety percent of
the population.
so tell me why your eyes
are the only ones i could
ever find myself gazing at.
why are they so
mesmerizing in the sun and
somehow still in the dark.
your eyes do not remind of
the outside world, rather
they remind me of home.
they remind me of dark
coffee and cozy mornings
in cabins where we always
have pancakes drowned in
syrup the same shade
as your eyes for breakfast.
tell me if they are so
standard why is it that i can
only feel the warmth and
see the depth beneath
yours and yours only.
you say they are common
and undesirable yet i can
only get lost in their safety
as they ground me when
my world seems anything
but normal.
your brown eyes are not
rare but they are familiar
and i found comfort in them
in this world of perfect
bright eyed strangers.
the darkness in your eyes
is so beautiful that much
like art it must die out
before it will ever get truly
recognized.-a letter for the
undervalued beauty
