my favorite stories used to be
the ones that began with once
upon a time and ended with
happily ever after.
the ones where the princess
always got saved and all the
dragons got slayed.
but now i'd rather listen to the
stories filled with sorrow and
pain that more often then not
ended in death.
the ones where the
misunderstood villain wins and
the arrogant hero realizes he
could not save everyone even
when he tried his best.
and perhaps it had nothing to
do with my change in favored
genres,
and everything to do with
getting sick of hearing about
endings that i know could never
be my own.
