Got a new chapter for 'To be Pretty in prison' coming out soon so look out for that ❤️
Ant's POV
The guards uniform was genius. I couldn't believe I hadn't thought about it before. The perfect disguise, the only place you could wear a mask and not stand out.
Flint was a little on edge as we walked seamlessly from one end of the camp to the other in plain sight but I was loving it, the way my heart raced in anticipation of a fight.
God I'd missed the danger.
"Over there." I nodded my head subtly to a row of outdoor cages I'd spotted before and gently nudged Flint off path, "Stand to the side, out of sight but make sure you can see me. Shout if anyone's coming."
Only after the black haired mute had walked away did I realise asking him to shout probably wasn't one of my finest moments.
I approached the cage lazily, playing the part of a guard who was bored and just looking for some entertainment.
Hugo, Robbie and Tristan were all locked in the same cage and god did they look awful. It seems myself, Flint and Stevie had been living first class underground, out of the punishing sun and given 3 meals a day.
My 3 knights looked exhausted from just being chained up, their lips were parched and skin burning in places. Each had been stripped of their armour and the thin, linen shirts left on their bodies were drenched in dirt and sweat. Hugo was the worst, he had been badly beaten and didn't seem to have recovered well in the small space without medical supplies.
I felt my anger rise but refused to do anything brash. I leant against the side of the cage, Tristan was the first to look up and his eyes narrowed, "Just leave us be alright, it's late already."
Robbie, who'd been supporting Hugo's head as he slept followed Tristan's gaze and his eyes widened for a fraction of a second before he just laughed.
"You got a death wish?"
"Yes but that's not why I'm here." I smirked, lifting the mask up so Tristan could see my face.
The blonde grinned, "I'm impressed."
"Doesn't take much does it." I chuckled, looking around for anyone watching but just catching Flint's eye Instead. I turned back to look at Hugo and frowned.
"How is he?"
"Getting weaker. He can barely breath. We think his rib is broken. It's inverted, too much movement is painful and I'm worried he could puncture his lung."
"Can he walk?"
Rob just glared back in reply, "I just told you he's dying. Of course he can't walk. He can barely open his eyes right now. We haven't been fed in three days."
My eyes stayed firmly fixed on the older man, not wanting to look at Robbie and have him see the arsehole attitude was just an act. I was actually really scared to lose him.
"Fine. Alright don't worry. We will carry him."
"I promise you he's heavier than he looks."
Hugo shifted beside Robbie and coughed a bit, before wheezing out "Okay, okay, I've gained a few pounds around the middle, it's what happens when you get older. No need to point it out."
I felt the weight over my heart lift slightly with his humour and smiled, "Hey, how you feeling Captain?"
"Like an old man. How about you? Is your... back healing?" His words were getting drowsy and slow, it had my heart aching but I ground my jaw to hold back the emotion.
