^^good instrumental song for this chapter, although the beginning weirded me out a bit it gets better ❤️
And another picture by StrawberryBoi where Ant is looking SUPER fit 😋
Two days past and Ant hadn't appeared from his tent. No one was allowed access apart from Robbie and occasionally Stephen who only entered to bring him meals, clothes or paperwork.
I wanted to see him really bad but when I asked Robbie he apologised and said it was probably best if I let him grieve.
Stephen had gone back to giving me the cold shoulder but he was just as depressed about the knights bloody return as everyone else. I didn't know them, but Gary's death and Johnnys critical condition had an massive impact on the life of the entire camp. It was tragic for many but I knew none felt the pain more then the Prince.
I'd just come back from lunch and was about feed the horse's when Tristan entered the stable with boots and a pile of folded black clothes in his hands, he nodded to the guard who bowed and took his leave to give us some privacy.
"Afternoon sir." I smiled shyly.
Tristan returned my smile lightly but it held none of his natural charisma and charm.
"Hey Declan. I've come to brief you on tonight."
I nodded sadly, Gary's funeral.
"It's a military death so that is how the funeral will be carried out. His Majesty has requested you wear these." Tristan held out the expensive black material which I took gratefully. "You'll walk up to the neighbouring field at the front of Robbie's squadron. Your job is to lead his majesty's horse and Gary's in their battle armour behind the casket. When the ceremony is over you'll know as everyone will file out."
"Okay, Thankyou."
"No problem kiddo." The blonde smiled before sadly making his way from my quarters his hand on his sword at his side and head hung low in thought.
I looked down at the clothes in my hands and unfolded them out carefully. They were like nothing I'd ever owned, black trousers and dress shirt with the Royal crest embroidered on the breast pocket. There was also a black quilted jacket which was lined with sheep skin to fend off the cold. I smiled, they were all my size and I was glad I could look respectful for the funeral.
Folding and putting aside the clothes I pulled Coco from where he was happily munching on some hay to start washing his coat so it was extra shiny.
Marble was next and she didn't put up a fuss as I cleaned out her hoofs and trimmed her mane until she looked fit for a king. She was a gorgeous animal and perfectly trained much like Coco. It was emotional getting her ready for her owners funeral knowing she'd never get to see him again.
Sundown came quickly, I was just doing up my jacket when the horn to signal the start of the ceremony sounded. Marble and Coco were stood together outside, looking very smart in their decorated golden lined armour. I fed them a treat quickly before hurrying out to the front where rows and rows of soldiers- stretching for miles back were stood, all dressed in black holding candles to light the night. Every man was armed but none looked intimidating for it, they had their heads bowed in respect ready to move out for the ceremony.
Tristan guided me to my position behind the wooden casket before taking his position beside it.
I looked up at the fully moon and the stars that twinkled above us thinking that maybe Gary was one of those stars now.
I was a little nervous as Robbie and the other knight stepped up to the casket behind Tristan knowing the ceremony was close to starting.
Coco shook his head and patted his hoof on the ground, I rubbed behind his ears comfortingly and shushed the horse lightly. They knew they had to be on their best behaviour tonight so the black stallion listened instantly.
