Two days had passed in that small cell and there was still no sign of Simon. We were fed and given water just like the other prisoners but past that nothing happened. I was bored out of my mind and had been repeatedly warned not to try to climb the bars of our cell by a grump guard who sat at the end of the corridor.
Simon hadn't come down and seen us. That was okay I guessed other than that we couldn't ask about news on Stevie and I was worried about him.
I huffed and chucked another stone though the gaps, seeing if I could land it in a small hole in the wall. I missed again and pouted. This game stopped being fun an hour ago.
I turned and looked back to locate Anth but he was where I left him, sat on the bed with his back to the wall, eyes shut and head up. He wasn't sleeping, even though he was exhausted, his breathing was too heavy so I knew he was awake.
A frown drew across my features on noticing the way his body was sagged weakly and his right hand held his left side across his stomach. My eyes flickered to his face but it was unmoving. I stood up and the Prince let out a shaky breath before shuffling uncomfortably.
I didn't say anything, just approached, my eyes flickered to the sweat on his brow and I started to get even more concerned. He'd been getting more tried and more withdrawn everyday. Something was wrong, but he never let me close enough to work out what it was.
This time he seemed pretty out of it so I stepped closer until I could sit beside him on the bed. The taller man sensed my presence and let his left hand thimble blindly until it could take my smaller one in his. Ant took in another ragged breath and with a shaky arm, lifted my knuckles to his lips, all while having no energy left to open his eyes.
I let my other hand move to rest on the side of his bare stomach, feeling the firm muscle beneath my palm as I slowly worked my way up towards his old, dirty bandage. It was bloodstained and going brown which was worrying.
Ant's lips had moved to focus on my thin wrist, gently sucking at the pulse where my blood pumped through my veins. It was hot, but I wanted to keep him distracted so he didn't notice as I tugged the bandage down, ready to look at the wound.
But the cold air hitting the sensitive flesh must've made him snap out of it as he quickly, went to grab my other wrist. It was strange, his right arm jerked at his side but he ended up using his less dominant hand instead.
Ant's eyes stayed trained on mine firmly and I winced at the grip on my wrist.
"Leave it." He ordered and I whimpered, pulling my arm away as hurt spilled through my body. It wasn't physical, this was emotional hurt and somehow that felt worse.
The Prince let me go and I stumbled back while he groaned in frustration, dragging his hand through his messy black hair. Tears prickled my eyes but I wiped them away quickly so he wouldn't see and just stood there awkwardly, shuffling between feet and fiddling with my hands nervously.
"S-Sorry." I mumbled while Ant sighed as if realising what he'd done.
"No I'm sorry. I over reacted. Come here." He adjusted his position so there was space next to him and gestured me over.
I hesitated and his face darkened, "Declan, come here."
I snapped out of it and clambered over quickly to let him pull me into his arms... or arm, the right one stayed down by his side. Ant tuck me securely under his chin and I nuzzled into his embrace. It was so safe and warm, I couldn't stay angry at him.
