"But I should go with you! Forrest is my bestfriend and I promised him I'd get his big brother back. Just let me come, I can help!"

I spun around in the middle of my room to the sharp sound of my door closing. Ant wasn't even loooking at me, he hung his head darkly and walked straight to my drinks stash.

The taller man grunted when he got there, seeing that I only kept water and fruit juice in my room, and immediately moved back towards the door. Impatiently, He opened it and stuck his head out into the hall ti locate the first guard or servant he could find, "You there. Get me wine."

"Right away, Your majesty."

There were hurried footsteps and Ant pulled his head back before leaning heavily on the closed oak door.

"You're not listening to me." I deadpanned, placing my hands on my hips with indignation.

Ant pushed his feet out a little so his back held all his weight and gradually lifted his head up to look at me through disheveled, dark tresses. He looked stressed and defeated, it always hurt to see him so.

"I am listening, but Im not fighting you on this Declan. It's not up for debate."

"But i should go! I can't hide in this castle forever! I should be out there fighting for my people! With you!"

Prince Anthony Just laughed and I felt my blood boil, "Don't laugh."

"You're not a fighter Declan and it's far too early in the game to lose something so precious."

"This isn't a game."

"But it is Declan. This is just one deadly game of chess."

Ant pushed off the door and gestured me towards a checkered board I'd used a few times when my tutor tried to teach me the game. I still wasn't very good at it.

"In this land, you are the king and I am a Knight. I will sacrifice myself for you but I'd be a fool to leave you unprotected when I pass. I'm replaceable. You are not."

The dark haired prince sat me down and stood over the board. With a stones face of concentration he began moving the white pieces in a neat formation. He moved his knights, bishops and queen, but he never once touched the king.

Eventually a barrier was built, tactically it was impenetrable but my brow furrowed to cast a shadow over my emerald green eyes as they flickered up to study his face.

"You once said to me, a Prince is nothing without people to protect." I looked down and picked the white king off the board. I held it tightly in my fist before, with rage bubbling in my veins, I swept all the pieces from the the chess board so they clattered noisily to the ground.

Ant watched my face emotionlessly as I placed the lone king on the empty board.

"What type of king would I be without my people Anth? Huh?"

The dark prince held my green gaze with his stormy blue orbs, his lips held in a tight, firm line.

I didn't back down, I knew I was in the right this time. Ant wasn't a people person and although he was smart, he was also bad tempered and brash. This new enemy thrived off causing a reaction. He liked to see people get angry and vulnerable. He liked to get a rise out of people, and Ant gave it to him. He couldn't help it, the Prince wore his heart on his sleeve and that's what got him in trouble, that's what made him weak.
