The three of us girls all ran to Carrie's house. Once we got there we were all out of breath. We sneaked to the front door, with no plan at all of how we were gonna take the guys home. Julie rang the doorbell and looked through the window to see who would answer the door for us. With our luck, it was Carrie.
My two friends both said, "Hey," while I stood behind them with my arms crossed. I was just here for one thing one, take an angry Luke home.
"What are you three doing here? How'd you get over the security gate?"
"Teamwork!" Julie told her that we basically were trespassing. "Do you have a Band-Aid? The barbed wire's new."
Carrie put a hand on her hip, "What do you want?"
"Uh," Flynn stepped forward, "Just thought you should know that Nova and Julie's band are playing at the dance tonight."
Julie smiled, "Now you know," and chuckled nervously.
"You guys are acting weirder than usual. Except for you Nova, you're always a drag," Carrie pointed at me.
I pushed my friends out of my way, "Look we're thirsty and we would like a glass of water. Please?" I told her sarcastically. My friends behind me agreeing that we could all use water.
"Ugh," Carrie scoffed, "Fine, if it'll make you leave faster." She moved out of the way for the three of us to enter. "Don't break anything," she screamed at us before leaving.
The three of us looked around the spacious living room, and to no prevail found the three ghosts. "Where are they," Julie said looking down one of the many halls.
"I'm.. I'm right here," a voice said behind us. Not any of the boys' voices thought. We turned to see Nick on the couch.
I made a tisk sound, "That's cute. You thought we were looking for you," I mumbled making Flynn snort.
"Nick! Look, Flynn and Nova, it's Nick," Julie tried to make the situation less awkward, and was failing miserably. "Nickster, Nicky-poo, Nick-a-licious," Julie rambled.
I elbowed her in the ribs, "Oh my god, stop! Please! Stop," I whispered to her.
Flynn let out a strain laugh, "Hey! Glad you're here, Nicky-poo."
"Oh for the love of God, make it stop," I elbowed her too.
"We wanted to tell you that Julie's band us playing at the dance," Flynn told him.
Nick sat up further on the couch, "Oh yeah. No..l saw your post-"
"These girls bothering you babe?" Carrie's voice filled the room. We looked at her to see her only holding two glasses of water.
"No just telling us about the dance tonight," Nick told her as he shifted his attention on his girlfriend.
Carrie walked to us to give only Julie and Flynn water, "Right. Julie and her hologram band are playing. How'd you learn how to do all that hologram stuff anyways? Sorry Nova, couldn't find another cup to give you."
"Right, cause you only have two cups in this mansion. Totally," Flynn let me take a sip of her water.
"The internet," Julie told Carrie, "It's not just full of makeup tips," which offended the girl as she swung her head to look at Julie.
Nick didn't know what to say, "Um... What do.. What do you say, babe?"
"Sure," she raised a brow to look at me as she sat next to Nick, "Let's check out the hologram show. Great. Umm I'll make sure all my buddies are there."
"Oo! How exciting. That's a lot of people staring at you. Especially you Nova, since you're performing twice. Don't wanna mess up," Carrie coldly said. "You girls remember where the door is, right?"
"Yeah," Julie said as she dropped all her water onto the floor, "Oh my gosh. I am so sorry," Carrie moved to get up, "No, no, no, no. I know where the towels are. I'll get it. Nova come help me." Julie handed Flynn her now empty glass and dragged me behind her.
As we heard Flynn talking randomly about stuff in the background, Julie took me to the stairs. That's the only other place that the guys could possibly be if they really wanted to have their revenge, they'd go straight for the source. "Guys. For your sake, you better not be up here," Julie whispered.
"Luke," I whispered yelled, "Get your ass down here!"
Julie and I searched throughout the whole top floor, not seeing them. "There not here, or if they were they're long gone Jules."
"Come on let's go," Julie headed downstairs.
As we walked downstairs quietly, I looked ahead and saw them, "Jules, There," I pointed out the window.
We tip-toed outside, eyeing Flynn and pointed outside to tell her to keep Nick and Carrie distracted. We walked outside seeing the guys pulling their pants up.
"What the fuck guys? So this is what you rather be doing than rehearsing. What happened to getting on the strip," I yelled, "You left me and Julie."
"Yeah, did you guys have fun in there," Julie told them harshly.
Luke pulled his pants up and zipped them, my eyes wondered down there as my cheeks blushed red, "Okay, you'd do the exact same if he stole all your songs."
"Hm no. I wouldn't actually because girls don't think pulling down our pants is gonna fix anything if someone stole from us," I took a step towards him.
"But you have new songs. With me," Julie said.
There goes that 'me' again. Never fully including me.
"The best way to get back at Trevor is for this band to do great. And to do great, we have to play at dances, then clubs."
Luke walked around me to stand in front of Julie. My face fell as I looked ahead at the pool and bit the inside of my cheek in anger and hurt. Julie always seemed more important.
"And tours. I know," Luke's voice said behind me.
"I'll see you guys at the school. We go on at 9, Nova starts at 8:55 and sings her song before coming on with us. Please don't be late. There's gonna be a lot of people there," Julie sighed.
Alex shoved his hands in his pockets, "We got it, all right? Don't worry."
"Come on Nova. You got practice," Julie said as she walked back inside.
"Coming," I sighed and turned to go back inside.
"Wait Nova. Let me explain. I'm sorry okay but....," Luke said as he stood in front of me, not knowing what to say to make the situation better.
"No, Luke," I walked through him, "Just be there like Julie said. You listen to her more than me anyways. I gotta go pick a song to perform," I walked inside without looking back at a shocked Luke.
My grandmother's right. Life isn't fair, especially to me. Seems to me I'm never picked first. There's always someone better out there.
