The ride back home was spent with the whole car singing my song and me just smiling and shaking my head at the sight of them. As we got out of the car, it was finally time to change focus onto Julie's song as Ray, Carlos, and Julie walked in a single file line singing.
"You and your phantoms were unbelievable tonight," Ray praised his daughter. "You know, I'd like to thank them for bringing music back into your life."
A smile crept onto my face as I looked over at Julie. We both were finally content with the idea of the guys crossing over and finding their peace that has been long over due. All we wanted was them to be happy because they helped us find our way when we were both in a very dark patch in our lives.
"I already did. But I didn't thank you, Papi," Julie smiled at her father as she wrapped her arm around mine. She turned and gave the flower that was in her hand to Carlos and gave her father a hug.
"Hey Julie. Nova. Uh.. can I talk to you for a second," Carlos asked as he admired the flower in his hand.
I nodded my head and walked over to the boy, only to be held back. I glanced down at Julie's hand on my arm, "Yeah. Yeah, um, just give us a minute," she rambled.
"Okay. I'll wait up. Don't ghost me," Carlos winked. My brows furrowed as I stared at the boy, I swear this child is weird.
I walked down the porch stairs as I waited for Julie to follow. Knowing that she wanted to go to the garage, I slowly walked there and stopped when I was in front of the door.
"Do you really think they're gonna watch over us, Jules," I asked as the girl met up with me.
She sighed, "Yeah. Of course they will. All those boys wanted was to see us succeed at what we love doing. They knew music was our passion and they weren't gonna rest until we made it, since.... since they didn't get the chance to do it when they were alive."
Julie pushed open the doors. We walked into the dark room, a room that once was filled with so much light and laughter. A room that made me feel close with my family and gave me a sliver of happiness, is now filled with pain. The pain of knowing that the three boys that gave me a sense of life, were now gone. Deep down, I know that I can't let myself spiral again, not after I promised them and myself that I wouldn't go down that path again.
Julie walked over to turn on the lights and it was only then that we both realized that we were both crying. She sighed, "I... I know that I already said this but, uh... thank you guys."
I grasped her hand, "For everything. For bringing back hope into our lives. For being there for us and never giving up on us. We love you. Reggie. Alex.... Luke."
"You're welcome," a voice groaned out.
My eyes widened at the sound of Reggie and Alex groaning.
"Dude," Luke groaned.
Julie rushed to turn on the rest of the lights, and it was only then we saw that the boys were laying on the ground, lifeless... well more lifeless than normal. "Oh my god," I said as I ran towards the boys.
"Why... why are you hear," Julie panicked, "I... I thought-"
A jolt interrupted Julie as the guys groaned in pain. All I wanted was to grab the guys' hands and hold them, tell them that it was going to be okay, but I can't. I can't hold them nor tell that it's all going to be okay because I just don't know that.
"What happened," I peered straight into Luke's eyes.
"I thought you crossed over. Why didn't you cross over," Julie cried out.
