james had seen very little of regulus this past week. more like he heard very little from regulus. they had spent a full week of quiet afternoons in the library so truthfully hed seen regulus a lot but it left james feeling unsatisfied
the weather has finally began to change. it rained a lot this week. it was almost poetic sitting by the windows as the rain pounded down as they had their noses buried in their books. it was something based on his limited experience and knowledge, he thought the poets would've loved
sitting in the library, enjoying each others presence was simple enough but james always found himself thinking it would never be enough. he knew hed never be satisfied with just being regs friend and after a week of sitting in quiet agony he made himself a promise
james had taken notice of how every so often reg would get distracted by the rain and stared out the window just watching it fall. he didnt quite understand it. he just enjoyed watching regulus look so peaceful and happy
"what're you looking at exactly?" james questioned looking out the window too
regs expression didnt waver, "i just like watching the raindrops fall, s'all. they look so peaceful."
james realized quickly that regulus was drawn to simple, more childish things. things that made him forget about the war and the constant overwhelming fear of something awful happening to them. james embraced it
he would bring reg muggle books that remus let him borrow
"here, thought might enjoy some fictional literature." james said plopping a book down on the table
regulus smiled softly, "how thoughtful. where'd you get it?"
"remus has millions of em."
draw things in the margins of his school notes
"would you quit that," regulus groaned
"no," james smiled. "now you'll think of me while you're studying."
guess which raindrop would reach the bottom first
"that one is gonna win," james stated confidently
"no this one is," regulus challenged. "its got a better angle..see!"
james did all he could to keep their innocence alive while he could
right before they left the library on friday night james had slipped a note into one of regulus's books asking him to meet at the astronomy tower late saturday night
that is where he stood now, at the top of the astronomy tower, looking at the stars waiting on his favorite liar to arrive. he knew any member of the black family had a star, he just didnt know which one was regs. while he waited he tried to find one regs star
then he saw regs tall and thin figure appear from the shadows from the corner of his eye. james turned around smoothly trying to keep his cool
"evening black," james coed stepping away from the ledge
"do you know how much trouble i had getting all the way up here," regulus chuckled. "howd you manage so well?"
james held up his most prized possession, his invisibility cloak. "with this."
"and im the one with secrets, huh?" reg joked as he took a better look at the cloak, completely infatuated by it
james smiled at reg lovingly, taking in his beauty trying to give himself some more confidence about what he was about to do, trying to remind himself why he promised he would
