We're Just Going to Talk

*Monroe's POV*

Returning to Maddy's, her car is still the only one in the driveway so I assume her parents aren't home yet. I knock and am greeted by Eleanor who informs me they're still in Maddy's room.

I head up and when I open the door, I find them lying on their stomachs eating popcorn and M&Ms with the Gossip Girl playing on the tv. Maddy scoots herself closer to Charlie and pats the space beside her. I lie down with them and grab a handful of popcorn. Maddy asks, "You ever seen this show before?" I snort and say, "Seen it? I lived it."

"Oh yeah. Right."

I pull out my phone and open the camera and say, "Smile!" Maddy kisses my cheek and Charlie sticks her tongue out. "I said smile! You guys are terrible at following instructions."

"Okay, okay take another, we'll smile nice!"

I take another and open up Instagram. I make a post with both photos and tag them. Once the episode ends, we head downstairs to see if Eleanor needs any help with dinner. As we're setting the table, I feel a tugging at the bottom of my skirt to see Seth looking up at me. "Can I show you something?" In his sweet little voice.

"Of course you can!" He takes my hand and leads me to the living room. I see a bunch of various toy dogs scattered on the floor. He pulls me down to sit with him so I adjust my skirt and cross my legs. He starts explaining all of their names and their roles and then hands me one wearing a pink vest and goggles, and says, "This one is Skye. She can fly!"

"Oh wow, that's very cool, is this for me?"

"Mhm!" He nods and then proceeds to explain our mission. I don't really understand what it is because almost half of his explanation was in the form of sound effects but it doesn't really matter because he seems satisfied with me just flying around making the occasional airplane noise.

A few minutes later Maddy and Charlie come in to the room and says, "Ah, I see you've been introduced to Paw Patrol. Careful, he'll suck you into that for hours."

"Oh good, can't wait."

"She's being Skye!" Seth says excitedly. "He must like you. Skye is his favourite," she says with a wink. "Oh wow, I'm honoured," I say with a grin. At that moment, the front door opens and a woman, who I assume is Maddy's mom walks in saying, "Who's car is in front of our house?"

I stand up from the floor as Seth runs over and launches himself at her yelling "Mommy!" she picks him up and looks at me and Charlie with a slight bit of surprise and says, "Oh, hello."

"Hi, Mrs. Sinclair, I'm Monroe."

"And I'm Charlie," she says with a wave.

"Oh please call me Laura. Maddy was telling us about you two. I was wondering when I would get to meet you," she smiles warmly.

"Um, sorry, is my car in the way? I can go move it."

"No, no, it's not. I just wasn't expecting anyone." She sets Seth down and he runs back to his toys. "I hope Maddy invited you to stay for dinner."

"Yes mom, of course I did. Eleanor has a lasagna in the oven and we already set the table."

"Sounds great." We all head to the kitchen, the three of us take seats at the island and her mom pulls out a bottle of wine and says, "Would anybody else like a glass?"

I'm surprised a little bit. I guess Maddy has one of those 'cool moms.' "Yes please," all three of us say at the same time. "Wait, I'm not going to get an angry call from either of your parents for this, will I?" I see Maddy give me a look out of the corner of my eye and I say, "Definitely not. I'm allowed to drink."
