Yamaris:
My eyes were heavy with boredom as the executives finalized next year's budget. Our meeting was going on hour five and the previous day was spent in a meeting as well. Each department proposed their needs and of course their wants. So today, we were separating what was important for each department and what could wait another year. I noted every figure in a shared Excel file and grew hungry as the minutes passed by. Ashley needed to tap me out so I could eat and give my brain a rest.

Can you take my place for an hour? I'm dying in here.
Begging you for mercy,

I drowned out the conversation taking place in anticipation of Ashley's response. She hated these meetings as much as I did but I needed some alone time. My body was tired from working twelve days in a row and those days weren't going to let up anytime soon. With my fatigue and day three of the internship coming up, I needed to cancel tonight's date with Ira for some rest. He was so charming and witty that I finally accepted his offer for a night out. The thought of reneging made me feel terrible but I had to remember that my financial success always came first. I let my guard down once and wouldn't stand losing focus for a man again.
A sharp hunger pain hit me as Ashley's email came in.

Dragging my feet to the conference room now. Lunch is on you next week.
Please and thank you,

"Your light will only shine as bright as you allow."
I politely excused myself and informed the executives that Ashley would be taking my place. As I exited the room, Ashley appeared to remind me that I would be buying lunch next week. The trade was well worth it as long as I didn't have to wait until 1:30 PM to eat.
With my purse in hand, I walked to the Five Guys a block from my office. The greasy smell made me salivate and order with my stomach. A bacon cheeseburger, cajun fries, and a peanut butter milkshake completed my order. The burger was messy with all of my toppings and I didn't mind the pickle and tomato juice running down my fingers. I grabbed a fry to dip in my milkshake and a FaceTime alert from Logan came through.
I quickly wiped my hands and answered.
"What's up, Marimar?" Logan said cheerfully.
"Lunch. I came into work early for our budget meeting and couldn't wait to eat."
