My alarm rings, I turn over to look at the time.
"6:15 am," my screen reads.
I pull myself out of bed and get somewhat ready. I decided I'm not gonna change until I get back to the dorm rooms. I walk up the stairs, quietly passing Zach sleeping. The sunlight warms the house as I start prepping ingredients for just a basic breakfast, assuming none of the boys are deadly allergic to anything. Midway through preparing, I pour in both Kobe's food and water, immediately waking the dog up from his sleep.
As I get up, a raspy voice behind me said, "You know you didn't have to do that."
I jump, "Jesus Daniel, you're gonna give me a heart attack." I say, holding my hand to my chest.
"Sorry, I woke up to feed Kobe but looks like you beat me to it." He says, rubbing his eye. The boy looks like he's sleep walking by how tired he looks. I think he might end up sleeping standing because he can barely open his eyes to talk to me.
"Yeah, I was gonna go walk him out too. Are you awake enough to or should I?" I pour myself a coffee.
He walks over and grabs a blueberry from the plate next to me. "Why do you always do that?" his eyes still half closed.
"Do what?" I ask, looking up from the mug.
"Help literally everyone. You don't know my dog but you offered to walk and feed him. You don't know us, but you opened your home and provided us with more than enough hospitality. You didn't need to do any of that." He pops the blueberry into his mouth.
"I know I didn't need to." pouring another cup of coffee, "but I wanted to. My mom taught me selflessness is the most beautiful attribute on a person. Personally, I think it's abs but you know, to each their own." He laughs at my lame joke,
"Sugar and milk?" I point to the cup.
"Yes, please." He says. I add some, passing it to him. "And to answer your question from earlier, yeah, I'm awake enough. Usually Jonah and I get up early to go to the gym so it's an internal clock. Thank you for offering though."

I start breakfast as Daniel leaves. 10 minutes later, Jonah walks up. I rope him into cooking with me in exchange for a cup of coffee. About an hour later, Corbyn comes upstairs with Jack at his side, turning on Emerson's TV to have FIFA playing in the background. As the sounds of the game fills the silence, Jack opens the fridge, pouring himself a glass of orange juice.
"What are you guys doing?" Corbyn says with a stretch, looking to Jonah and I.
"Just finished making eggs, you want bacon or sausage?" I ask him, cutting up fruit.
"She's decided we all need a continental breakfast." Jonah says, putting bread into the toaster. Jack walks over and grabs a strawberry off my cutting board, glass in hand.
"What? You don't seem like you're complaining." I reply back at Jonah. We are taken out of our conversation by the sound of footsteps on the stairs leading up to the kitchen.
"Well shit." Corbyn says.
"Good morning," Emerson yawns, walking to lean against the fridge.
"MY Emerson, up before 8? Well golly gosh, we got to throw a party or something." I say sarcastically.
"My real question is how did you get Zach out of bed before 9?" Jonah says. Zach walks over and sits on the dining table, laying his head against the chair he's on.
