(Zach's pov)

I can't explain it. Almost like jealous, but not quite there. I think it might be frustration—the fact she tells me all these terrible things about him but still lets him hold her hand. Or while we are eating, when he slightly pushes her hair out of her face, and she gives him the most beautiful smile, so subtly and genuine it makes your heart melt. I want to say he's undeserving, but he's the one that got the girl.

"Are you okay?" Kay says, her hand on my arm.

I smile at her, "I'm fine, just tired."

"So Zach, you joined the band when you were 15 right?" Nate snarks.

Jesus, everything that leaves his mouth is pretentious.

"Yeah, we all moved in together when I was 15."

"So, you didn't graduate high school?"

"Nope. Sorry, I was too busy being part of a million dollar-" Just as I'm about to finish my sentence, I get kicked in the shin. I bring my hand down to rub my shin, trying to ease some sort of pain. I look up to see Kira glaring at me, giving me a "stop talking" face.

"What was that for?" I mouth to her.

But Nate continues the conversation. "You were saying?"

"Nothing, uh, the band just picked up momentum quickly and it was hard to do both at the same time." I say, sitting up straight. I drape an arm around Kay's chair and slightly rub her shoulder. She looks gorgeous tonight. She's in a black dress, with her hair curled and put into somewhat of a half up half down look. She smiles at me, but her eyes are searching for something more.

I feel terrible that I haven't even given her the time of day because my eyes have been stuck on Kira. Kay is the perfect girl on paper, everything anyone could ever want. But Kira is unpredictable and so funny; she makes my stomach hurt every time. She knows how to make you feel safe and feel loved even on her worst days.

She's MY perfect girl.

"You wanna leave?" Kay whispers to me. "We can pay up front." I nod in response, grabbing her hand and her coat.

"It was nice to meet you." I say, shaking Nate's hand. Kira's also his perfect girl, and I can never have her while they are together. I might as well be nice to him, it'll make Kira happy. "Nice to meet you too, man." Nate shakes my hand in response.

"Bye Ira." I say after Kay hugs her. She waves goodbye as we make our way to the door, paying.

I pass Kay her coat, opening the door for her. "You're not actually tired, are you?" she says, slipping it on.

"What are you talking about?" I laugh, putting on mine.

"You were getting uncomfortable with the closeness of Kira and Nate."

"I don't know what you are-" I say, walking to the cat.

"Zach, you can try and lie to me but I've known you for too long." she says, standing right where I left her. I walk back up to her. "I'm not lying."

"I can tell you're trying super hard to convince yourself that," she says, making fun of me. 'But, I know better."

"What do you mean?"
