"How excited are you?" Corbyn asks, taking his eyes off the road to look back at us. We are driving on our way to the Zach Sang show; 7 of us, all crammed in the car. I think we might actually be on time because Emerson got up earlier and got ready faster than all of us combined.
"Dude, I'm on the verge of literally peeing myself." Emerson says, delight in her voice. "I don't think I've ever been this excited in my life."
"You think you're gonna be starstruck? HA STARSTRUCK." I ask, looking at her.
"Okay, bad joke. But, I don't think so. He's a human too, right?" She shrugs.
"You would think." Zach says, twisting off the cap of his water bottle.
"Girls have gotten starstruck over you? Sarah Olson vibes?" I ask, my hand out, asking to grab it. He rolls his eyes, passing the bottle to me because he knows I forget to bring mine.
"Dude, one chick punched me in the face because of how excited she got." Daniel scoffs from the seats in front of Emerson and me.
"Our fans mean well, they just sometimes forget that we aren't just faces on a screen anymore." Jonah says from the passenger's seat.
"See, I think I'll be fine, I know he's not just a face behind a screen." Emerson argues.
"Okay, but I'll laugh if you go all starry eyed." Jack laughs.
*
"Holy crap, holy crap, holy crap." Emerson squeals, clutching my hand as we stand in front of the studio. "Zach Sang, Zach Sang, Zach Sang."
"Are we only speaking in 3's now?" Corbyn asks as he locks the car.
"Or should I say, are we only speaking in 3's now? Are we only speaking in 3's now? Are we only speaking in.." Jack cuts himself off laughing.
I've never met someone who finds Jack's jokes funnier than Jack. His laugh is contagious, making me stifle mine as we are greeted by the air-conditioned room.
We all walk in, Zach following after, holding the door for all of us. He runs up after me, slinging a hand around my waist. I've kept my distance from him as much as I can since New years. It's been eating me up, the guilt curdling my stomach. What I did was cheating, I think. I'm not entirely sure. I just know whatever I felt for Zach at that moment, for whatever reason, was nothing like the way I think for Nate in the slightest. It was new, exciting, adventurous even, and it felt perfect. Not a sparks fly, love at first sight type of perfect but a perfectly imperfect sloppy New Year neck kiss that was sweaty and filled with intoxicated decisions. I know I didn't initiate it, but I didn't stop it.
I certainly didn't stop the butterflies from swarming my stomach. I know I'm wrong for feeling this way especially when another boy has my heart, but it's tough to keep remembering.
"Are you going to cheer me on?" He asks, grabbing onto my belt loop.
"Nah, I think I might honestly boo you off. I'll take your spot in the band even." I smile.
"You could never have perfected the "and we're why don't we."" He smiles back as we continue to walk, his hand wrapped tightly around like I were to run away otherwise. As we turn the corner, Zach drops his arm at the sight of an intern. I look at him muddled, but he continues walking, so I trail behind him.
We turn another corner to see 2 men standing outside of a door. Emerson stops, causing Jack to run straight into her.
