SIXTEEN (WHAT'S THE STORY)

MORNING GLORY?

—✧—✧—✧—✧—✧—

"PANS!" SAYS DELIA. Her voice is a steady neutral. Well — as neutral as she can keep it right now, but on the inside, she's freaking the fuck out. Because out of all of the terrible things that could've happened, of course, it's this. Why does she have the worst luck? Why do the angels hate her? What's she ever done? There's a brief moment where Delia considers drowning herself in the Black Lake. Or maybe she should've let that dragon burn her to a crisp when it had the chance. Either way, this is not anywhere in any of her plans.

(Which is stupid, she knows. Usually Delia accounts for everything and all possible outcomes and scenarios that could happen. But for some reason, one of her friends — Pansy to be even more specific — catching her with Harry was never accounted for. Maybe it's because she never thought she'd get caught.)

The original plan was that slowly over time, Delia would drop small hints about Harry 'not being that bad' whenever her friends would talk about him or insult him. And slowly get them to warm up to the idea of him. Maybe not completely thaw out, because Delia didn't know if that would even be possible, but melt at least some of their exterior. And then when she finally revealed that hello she's been friends with Harry this entire time! They don't take it so hard.

(Draco probably would've still taken it hard either way, but Delia likes to think that Theodore wouldn't have. Maybe Blaise too. But Pansy's completely a wild card. She could either take Delia's side, or completely shun her.)

She's got no idea how her best friend would've taken the news on Delia's own account, but Delia likes to think that Pansy wouldn't have taken it all that hard. Maybe the fact that she's giving Delia a chance to explain says something about it.

Pansy's got her arms crossed over her chest like she's in some sort of defensive stance. And Delia doesn't get scared easily, she's always been the intimidator, not the intimidated. But right now, when Pansy's got her arms crossed over her chest, a deathly look in her eye, and the fact that she's got about two inches on Delia — makes her seem pretty bloody intimidating.

Delia closes her eyes. Maybe when she opens them, she'll wake up in her dorm and this won't be real.

She opens them and Pansy's still in front of her.

She sighs and looks over at the wall once, before turning back to Pansy. There's no more avoiding this. Delia knew that the truth would come out sooner or later. She just hoped for later (maybe much much later, like her seventh year or something), and to have control over how it happened.
