TWENTY-FOUR UPTOWN GIRL

—✧—✧—✧—✧—✧—

MADELEINE WRIGHT didn't know much. But the one thing she knew for certain, was the history behind her name. She knew that by the time her gender was confirmed, her parents both immediately knew what they were going to name her. Madeleine — a name passed down through her mother's side. One girl of each generation carried the name, a tradition Madeleine felt honoured to continue. Wright — her father's surname, passed down to him through his father, and his father before him. But Madeleine knew that at the very start of the Wright family tree, they had chosen their surname because they were makers. They were builders.

A Wright makes their own way. They build their own path. And when needed, they help others build their own path too. Madeleine was no different than this. She was determined to keep the legacy of her name alive, whether it be in Muggle school, or in Hogwarts. She was going to make sure everyone knew what the name Madeleine Wright meant. And that's exactly what she did.

From the moment she stepped foot into Hogwarts, she mesmerised everyone around her. Students marvelled at how beautiful she was, even at eleven years old. Some dirty seventh years tried to make a move on her, and even though Madeleine didn't know anything at the time, she was much too absolved in the new world around her to recognise their advances. Eventually they gave up. Teachers adored her pure wonder about the world in front of her. Sure, they had seen muggle-born children utterly in awe when they first stepped foot in the castle, but none like this.

It didn't take long for the name Madeleine Wright to spread throughout all of Hogwarts. About a month into her first year, and everyone knew who she was. Everyone knew what the name Madeleine Wright meant — a beautiful girl whose eyes were constantly filled with wonder.

Over time, though, that began to change.

Around her fourth year, Madeleine began to realise the effect that she had on people. The way that she was able to command the attention of a room, simply by walking into it, or the way that when she flitted her eyes just right at someone, they would fall to her feet. And it's during her fourth year, that people started to understand that she was trouble. Not that Madeleine ever really understood any of this. She was beautiful. A curse in disguise. She never knew what to do with so much power held in a flip of her hair.

That's when Peter Pettigrew came to terms with the fact that he was falling, hard, for one of his best mates. He was only fourteen, and yet, somehow, he was fully confident that Madeleine was the only woman that he'd ever love. Even if he came to love someone else in the future, he'd never love them as much as he loved her. She was the only one for him. And that was one thing that he was certain of.
