NINE SHE'S NOT AFRAID

—✧—✧—✧—✧—✧—

A COUPLE OF days later, Delia's woken up by Pansy shaking her awake. Groaning, she swats her friend's hand away and turns around in bed. It's much too early for this. Especially on a weekend. Delia shoves her face into her pillow as Pansy continues to shake her. This feels illegal. Is the sun even up yet?

When Delia was little, Lyla had somehow managed to convince her that getting up before the sun was up itself (only on the weekends, of course) was a curse. That if you woke up before the sun woke up, it would be angry at you and keep you from seeing colour. Of course, Delia loved (and still does love) black and white, film noir movies, but she didn't want to only see in black and white for the rest of her life! So every night for three years, before she went to sleep on the weekend, she would check to see when the sun rose and set her alarm clock to wake her up only after that time.

Of course, now that she's older, Delia knows that it was just some stupid prank that her cousin pulled on her to keep a little Delia from waking up Lyla early in the morning to go play, and that the sun won't actually punish you if you wake up before it does. But still. It seems criminal to get up before the sun on a day off.

Turning onto her stomach Delia moans as she stretches her arms underneath her pillow, and she feels the rough texture of a photograph underneath her pillow. Remembering how she stole that odd picture that she found in Moody's desk, Delia quickly brings her arms back out from underneath her pillow and turns onto her back, making a mental note to keep the picture somewhere more secure when she has time. (Maybe under the mattress?)

"Haven't you ever heard of beauty sleep?" Delia groans, sitting up and rubbing her eyes.

Oh. The sun is awake.

"Oh hush up," says Pansy shoving a paper in Delia's face.

Delia takes the copy of the Daily Prophet from Pansy's hands and looks at her. "What?"

Pansy rolls her eyes. "Flip to page two."

Delia does as Pansy told her, and when she reaches page three she smiles. There, she's got a whole page dedicated to her and her involvement in the tournament. She grins at Pansy. A wizard picture (a moving picture) of her is stamped on the page and — shit she looks good. Which is why that right now, she decides that she likes moving photographs much better than regular photographs.
