DELIA LAUGHS AT something Daphne says, as she looks at her course schedule while taking a bite of her toast. She'd gotten as much information as she could from Heather, Alice, and Amelia before they'd left for school. And she'd tried to get some more information about the classes from Amelia this morning — the keyword being tried — but Amelia was finding every excuse to avoid Delia. She figures it's because she's in Slytherin. Pansy had told her about the everlasting rivalry between the two houses the night prior.
And maybe it's for the best. After all, Delia wants to make her own path and her own friends here. When she gets to the top, she wants to do it because she did it herself. Not because she's related (but not really) to Amelia and her family. And besides, apparently, her new friends don't like her sort-of family that much anyways. So it all works out.
Delia frowns as she reaches for the butter. She looks over at Pansy. She looks at her timetable again, to make sure that she read it right. (She knows she did, but what?) "Why are almost all of our classes with the Gryffindors?" she asks Pansy. "The professors have to know that we don't like them, and they don't like us."
She hopes her use of the word 'we' isn't too soon.
Pansy rolls her eyes. "It's always been like that," — she hands Delia the butter — "of course, the Gryffindors probably love it. Always taking every opportunity to show off the teachers favouritism. Merlin, they're insufferable. Always with their Gryffindor pride, thinking they're so great and honourable."
Delia almost drops the knife slathered in butter. Shit. She'd gotten so wrapped up in all of the school drama and trying to learn as much as she can about the school and its students — that she's completely forgotten all about winning over the professors. God, it's such an amateur move. She should've known better. It's just that, maybe a part of her is still living in St. Anthony's. Where she was always the teacher's favourite (never to be confused with teacher's pet) that she didn't even think about what'll happen if the teachers favoured another student over her. Never mind a whole other house. Which means they're already biased against her. OK, fine. Delia will just have to work twice as hard as she needed to before.
There's a loud rustling noise from up above and Delia tries her best to hide her awestruck expression as about a hundred owls of all different colours come soaring into the Great Hall. A beautiful eagle owl lands onto Draco's shoulders from across Delia, carrying sweets and cakes. She grins as Draco takes the large majority for himself and then gives some to her, Pansy, and the girls — along with his two hench-boys Crabbe and Goyle, and then finally, Blaise and Theodore.
