TWENTY-THREE ORDINARY WORLD

—✧—✧—✧—✧—✧—

"RIGHT THEN," DELIA SAYS a bit awkwardly as she takes a small step back from Harry and swallows. He's still looking at her intently and Delia wants to melt into a puddle on the floor. Why is he looking at her like that? All she's done is hug him, it's not like she's saved the world or anything. Most certainly nothing to warrant him looking at her like... this. She remembers how she wanted to ask him what he was going to say on the train that day. "Remember on the train, at the end of term, you were going to say something?"

Harry straightens his back and his cheeks seem to flush at the mention of the day. He runs his hand awkwardly through his hair again like he's nervous and Delia frowns at him as she narrows her eyes. "Is everything alright?" she asks, concerned.

"Yeah," says Harry. "It's just — er — what I wanted to say that day was—"

       "Delia."

She whips around at the mention of her name and Delia feels her chest start to tighten when she faces the man who said it. She swallows thickly and takes a deep breath, painting back on her stone cold poker face — which she feels that she's been able to completely perfect after spending all this time locked away in this house like some fucked up version of a fairytale. She blinks and stares at him.

"Sirius," she says coolly.

"I see you're back."

"Yeah," she says. She remembers something she overheard her mum say to her dad once. About how she'd gotten into a fight with someone and her immediate plan was to be the nicest person ever and make the other person feel like shit for seemingly hating Gianna for no reason. Delia takes that into account now as she steadies her voice and clears it of any aggression. "I just got in."

"Sirius was bringing me to the kitchen, you're coming, right?" he looks at Delia and she nods.

"Yeah," she says. "Yeah, of course."

She walks in front of Harry and Sirius as the three of them walk in silence down the stairs and through the door to the kitchen in the basement. Ever since she's moved here, Delia's always found this a bit odd. She knows that when she gets older and had her own house, she'll want the kitchen to be on the first floor like most houses do. Definitely not like this.

Opening the door and walking into the kitchen, Delia takes her usual seat at the table as she sees Harry wonder at everyone in the room: all of the Weasley's and most of the members of the Order of the Phoenix. They all marvel at Harry and — frankly, in Delia's opinion — over-do it with the greetings and hello's. They all ask him how he's been over the summer and if he's doing alright, which, Delia finds a bit hypocritical because, wasn't it their fault that Harry was left alone with his awful relatives all summer?
