NINETEEN READY OR NOT

(HERE SHE COMES)

—✧—✧—✧—✧—✧—

THE MONTH OF THE last task sees Delia with a determined look on her face, ready to win. Her eyes are on the prize (more specifically the Triwizard Cup), but either way — she's in it to win it. Which — if it isn't clear already — becomes abundantly clear when all of the students from all of the schools realise it as well. Delia Thorne is here to win.

Because imagine it; everyone sees Slytherin as the house of evil, everyone sees her as the representative of the house of evil. And this is the chance to prove to everyone that she's not. That they're not. She doesn't want to get too cocky yet, but Merlin she's looking forward to the expression on everyone's faces when she wins. (Which she will, by the way.) All the Gryffindor's jaws will be on the floor, no doubt. Probably being sore losers and claiming that she cheated or something. But nope. Delia's not a cheater. She's a lot of things — not a cheater.

She sees an opportunity, and she seizes it. She saw an opportunity to put Dianne Johnson in her place, and she went for it. (It backfired, duh — but if it didn't, then she wouldn't be here. So maybe that whole thing was for the better anyway.) And she saw an opportunity to get Karkaroff (somewhat) on her side, and she went for it. She sees an open window of opportunity, and she goes for it — she's a lot like her parents in that way.

Like how she seizes the opportunity of the empty school grounds by waking up bright and early in the morning every day and trains with one of her friends. (Screw not waking up before the sun.) And now she seizes the opportunity of one, or any, of her friends having a free period and training with them.

Often it was Pansy, helping her out. But it tends to change depending on all their schedules. Delia's already ahead in all of her classes — one of the perks of being top student in her year — so it's not a big deal for her to miss a class or two to train instead. But Pansy's been struggling a lot with Transfiguration, and she's even gotten herself a tutor. So now, it's usually Draco or Daphne helping her out.

And although Delia loves Pansy so much, she's grateful that she's got Draco to Daphne helping her a lot of the time. They know how to push her. They know how to turn her weaknesses into strengths. And both of them run like machines. Daphne's pretty much a god at attacking spells, and Draco's always there to criticise her and tell her what spells she's slow on.

It sounds like a lot. Delia's aware of that. But she doesn't mind it. She likes having a packed schedule. The classes, homework, exams, and constant training help take her mind off the fact that Harry believes her.
