"Was your aunt by any chance...part of a quirk marriage?"Todoroki's voice rung through your head ten times before you could fully grasp what he said. Quirk marriages were so rare now a days...you didn't think many people even thought about them anymore. But how did he know?
"Yes. I don't know many details aside from the fact that after they were married, they moved away and had a couple of children. Apparently the guy was a pro hero, and wanted a strong child to be his successor. My mom didn't have many connections with her though, and my grandmother was the only one who my aunt was allowed to speak to. Later on, my mom met my dad and they had me. When my quirk developed, I had real issues controlling it so eventually, we moved away as well. I never even learned her name." As the words left your mouth, Todoroki's gaze shifted to yours, his eyes seeming wider then usual.
"I...I think we need to talk. In private."
The elevator door slid open, revealing the floor where you and Todoroki were staying. He swiftly left the elevator, venturing into his room as you slowly trailed behind. The room Todoroki was staying in was the same as yours, just in the opposite side of the hall. It had a queen sized bed, a bathroom, a small kitchen, and a desk and rolling chair. There was a chandelier attached to the ceiling, and a painting above the bed frame.
"Todoroki? Are you feeling okay? How'd you know all that stuff?" you asked hesitantly, sitting down in the rolling chair as he rested against the wall next to you, arms crossed over his chest.
"I'm alright. I think I've figured something out," he sighed, staring at the floor before breaking the news to you, something you'd never forget. "I think...we're related."
"W-what? US? How? Where are you getting that from?" you exclaimed, standing up and allowing the chair too slide out from under you. How did he even come to a conclusion like that? Especially after asking such strange questions.
"It's a long story, and there's only one way we can know for sure, but I'm fairly sure my mother is your aunt. The one in the quirk marriage who was forced away from her family," he explained slowly as you continued to stare at him with wide eyes.
Of course, it wasn't completely impossible. But...could it really be the same person? Quirk marriages were uncommon now, sure. But were they really that sparse?
"What makes you think that?"
You could see him swallow hard, his eyes narrowing as he spoke.
"My mother was forced into a quirk marriage with my father for the sole purpose of creating a powerful child. They had three children together before they had me, each one being a failure to my father since none of them possessed both my parents quirk. My fathers ability to create fire, and my mothers ability to create ice," Todoroki began as the pieces slowly started too fall into place.
You remembered when you were young, about eight or so, you had asked your mother about the rest of your family. She'd told you about her sister who left, yet only briefly. She said your aunt was a gorgeous, powerful woman. Her quirk was the ability to create ice, and control it. Your mothers was a mere shadow of that, only being able to freeze the things she touches. According to your mother, since her sisters power was so much stronger, her hair had turned a greyish white, sort of like Todoroki's, making her stand out in the family.
"Does your mother have greyish white hair? Like yours?" you asked, pointing to his right side, receiving a nod from him.
"Yes. You see, I was my fathers prized child. He neglected my siblings, his sole focus being to train me to one day take his place as a pro...and surpass All Might. My mother hated the things he would put me through, constantly begging for him too ease up on me. He never did. If she got in the way, he would hit her, or yell at her too get lost. I hated it. Regardless if they'd once loved each other in the past, I had become the reason they were driven apart. And it was for a future I had no say in. I wasnt the only one who was driven mad by his abuse of power though. There was one day, when I was around five, I found my mother in the kitchen all alone. She had boiled water to cover her voice as she spoke to our grandmother over the phone. I don't remember much, except for the fact that she said she wanted too run away. She called my left side unbearable, before she poured the boiling water on my face."
