We came out of the tunnel just out side the city limits where the world was sill wild with vast desolate deserts filled with large lizards and snakes all around.
“Where douse you friend live?” We continued to walk away from the city and the life I knew before.
“Not far, but not to close either.” He walked several feet away from me
An hour later we came across an old rundown house with blue shutters on the windows, and a blue front door surrounded by white walls covered in rose thorns. The roof did not look like it could hold back any rain as several rows of tile have crashed down into the tall brown grass below and there were dark spots that seemed to go right throw the roof.
“You have to be kidding how anyone can live there.” I look up at my brother.
“What’s the motto of the society?” he stopped just before me
“Memento acti prudentes futuri ” I recited from memory
“Which means what?” he stared at the house
“Mindful of what has been done, aware of what will be.” I dropped my arms to my side
“Remember learn everything you can. She is really smart even though some days it might not seem like it.” He started to walk up to the door. “And watch your tough she is a very smart and strong friend of our family.”
Steve knocked on the door, which brought a woman with short red hair with a tit blue dress and brown socks. “Steve is that you?” she asked happily “I thought you would of died by now.” She had huge smile on her face,
“I thought the same about you.”
“So what do you wont?” she folded her arms across her chest,
“I need you to do the order a favor.” We saw her smile vanished,
“No why. I have nothing they want. I am done with them.” She was about to close the door on us.
Steve put his hand in the way “Lesson we need you to do one thing.” I looked at her and did not see anything she had a wall with pitchers up instead of her past like Steve. She looked down at me.
“What?” she turned to me
“Why can’t I see your past like I can Steve?” her face when white as the color darned out. She turned to Steve then at me then, back at Steve. She quickly glanced around then opened the door wide.
“You two better get inside.” She moved to let us past her.
We entered her house it was a total mess books and papers everywhere. At are right was a sitting area with three woven mixed matched colored couches facing a fireplace. Every where there was a wall there was a bookcase filled with books. Next to the fireplace away from us was a door leading to a room. Another door sat across from us leading outside. To our right was a full L-shape kitchen, a wooden table that could set six and another door. Every flat surface had either books, papers, or a bottle with something in it. What caught my attention was a large gold circle to the left of the door going to the back yard it was the only thing in the room that had nothing on, in, or around it.
“Sorry about the mess. I’m busy working on something.” She waved her wand at the couches to clear them up of colluder as will as the rest of the room. Everything went flying to their rightful place “Pleas sit. And I will make you all something to eat.” She went to the kitchen. Steve grabbed my arm and forced me into a couch in front of the fireplace as he walked over to the woman who was now in the kitchen. They talked softly so I couldn’t hear them.
“What! What do you mean the dragon child haves been born?” Steve quieted her down. “You can’t be serous? Her?” she looked at me from the kitchen. Midnight was asleep on my lap and I two started to dose off.
“Yes her. She is my sister and was chosen to teach the dragon child, but first she needs to control her power.” He helped set up the table
“NO! There is no way if the Dragon Fang wants her then they can teach her. I will not be helping them again!” She snapped at Steve,
“Lesson I am not here for them. She is my sister and the guardians gave her the same type of power as you. I don’t trust any one other then you with her. Pleas for old time’s sake?” she folded her arms around her waist as she looked at me.
“Fine I will help, But only tell she is old enough to take the first power test.”
“Deal,” they continued to talk about other things that I could care less about. I soon fell into a deep calming sleep right where I was sitting.
My nice dream of running throw field of purple flowers took a change for the worse images of the Crasher killing my classmates came to me as I watched unable to move as I found my self chained to a wall. The beast turned to me then started to charge at me. I screamed and ran to the farthest corner of the room I could find. My whole body was shaking as I realized I was still at Steve’s friend’s house. I looked up and show them both staring at me from the table in the center of the room.
“Are you ok?” asked the woman as she came up to me. I was griped in fear, I screamed, and held tied to my legs agents my chest when she reached for me. “What happened to her?”
“We where attacked by a Crasher before we came here.” He looked away from her
“What! Poor child look at me, calm down, you are safe here.” she reached for me again. Only this time she lowered one of her walls and I sow a blast of color and instantly calmed down. “You will be staying with me young one. You can call me Tilley.” She smile I smiled back, “Come you should get some food in you.” She helping me to stand and walk over to the table. Both wolves where eating pieces of meat from a plates on the floor. “Calvin!” Tilley yelled and the door next to the fireplace opened and a small yellow dragon about the size of a large dog came out and jumped up on Tilley’s counter next to the sink that sat under the window facing the front yard where another piece of meat sating on a plate.
I watched the yellow dragon with its short leathery wings and scaly body move with each bite it swallowed. It had a long thin nose like a crocodile, and a long thin tail that ended in a pointed arrow shaped spike. It had three toes on each foot and one back toe with large sharp claw on back of its front paws each had a claw on its end. “Never seen a dragon before?”
“Yes but only the larger European ones.” I turned to her smiling face.
“Oh that’s right you have a brother that works with them. Right?”
“Yes but how do you know Andrew?” she smiled at me
“We are friends, per say, he is the one that introduced me to Calvin.” I looked at my brother and he looked up from his tea.
“Tilley is, has, and always will be, a good friend of the family.” He said as he returned to his tea.
“You will be staying here there is a room throw the door behind you which will be yours. We will start your training tomorrow morning. If that is all right with you?” I feared I did not have much of a chouse so I agreed with her. “Good you will learn a lot with me.” She smiled.
We said “good by” to my brother and watched them return to the city. “Well Kate? Do you like ice cream?” she asked as we went back inside.
“Yes I do.” I looked up at her. She used her wand and cleaned the table off and laid out two boils of ice cream. We eat the sweet dessert once finished Tilley stood and walked over to her bookcase next to the fire where her dragon was asleep on the rug next to Midnight.
“Tell me young one what gift exactly did the gardens give you?”
“They gave me two.” putting the empty boil in the sink I looked at the tile that had stair patterns on a black field.
“Come hear I want to show you something.” I walked over to her. “So what are the two gifts?”
“The first gift they gave me well let me see what others are. The second gift well let me learn other people’s power after I see it used.”
“Really that is some talent.” She pulled out a book and handed it to me. I took the black leather bound book with gold righting on the cover, which read “Thought Control and movement of power.” It was light compared to the size. “There our clause in the dresser inside of the room that should fit you for now and your own bathroom.” She started to give me a tour of the house.  I turned to the gold circle imbedded in the floor.
“What is that for?” I was pointing to the circle.
She turned to what I was looking at. “That is called a circle.”
“I can see that but what is it for?”
“Have you ever had a secret place where no one can find you?”
“Yes.”
“Will that is seemlier to that it’s called a power circle it can create a round wall that can keep out anything magical, as well as keep things in them.”
“What do you mean?”
“Go stand in side and find out.”
I walked over and entered the circle and felt a thick presents of power.
“Touch it.”
I reached down and a flash of light jumped up surrounding me in a pillar.
I could still see everything around me. “Wow!” I watched Tilley create a fireball spell then throw it at me. I ducked and when I looked up I sow the spill trapped by the circle. I stood up and reached for it and it vanished. “WOW!”
“Touch the circle.”
I did and the circle vanished before my eyes. I was in shock at the site of them.
“What do you think?”
“That’s way cool.”
“You can even use it to summand a beast and it will not be able to leave the circle tell you let it out.” I looked up at her
“Why would you want to do that?”
“Because a beast you can get control of and use it agents those you do not like.”
“Do you think that is what attacked us could that beast have been summoned to kill us?”
She looked tours the fire “I do not know it could have been. I hope it was not.”
“Why?” she looked at me
“To attack a school of magic is treason affiances one of the many laws that the society makes, and it’s really hard to do with all the safe guards in place.”
“Why do you think some one would want to heart us?” Tears formed in my eyes.
“It mite not of been just one thing it could be a lot of reasons. It could even have been a personal attack on someone there but don’t worry about it you’re safe hear.” She tried to ashore me with a smile
“I hope so.” I said with a yon.
“Ok off to bed with you. We well talk more in the morning.”
“Night,” I went to bed
“Night,” She smiled as Midnight followed me in the room.
