Child of the Dragon Chapter One

The safe house

“What’s going on?” we saw several cars went by.
“Don’t worry about it. Destin pleas take the boy and go.” I lost track of the man who was across the street as a truck went by.
“Kate.” I turned and sow the man on the same side of the street as us on my left.
“Give up Kate and hand over the boy and no one will get heart.” the man pointed his wand at us as he walked toured us.
“He is blocking the way to the car,” Destin pulling Nicolas behind us by his shirt.
“Great.” I stare at the man as he came closer to us. I sow some thing odd about the man it was like seeing my older brother inside of him. Fear hit me like a ton of bricks and all I wonted to do was run but I have to keep Nicolas safe.
“CAMINUS !” the man created a stream of fire that came at us.
“MUNIO !” I forced out it created a shield wall forcing the flame away from us.
“Foolish child try this,” the man spun around “HARENA ” which created a beast out of the dirt that surrounded everything. I could not help but smiled at the spell at one time I would never have been able to make one now I can on my sleep.
“How could you use something like that agent me give me some credit. HYDRUS !” I yelled and the moocher’s form the surrounding air gathered and created a large water beast that destroyed his like paper in a thunderstorm. Then it sent him flying back words several hundred feet “Let’s get out of hear.” we ran to Destin’s car, which was a blue 2006 Saturn “ion.” We all piled in Midnight, Scarlet, and Nicolas in the back seat Destin drove and I sat next to him in the front seat.
“WOW! That was great!” Nicolas hoped up and down in the seat, “I never have seen any one do, anything like that before.” I was sitting there taking deep breaths as I regained my strength.
“Ya, really great I lost to mush power with that last move.” I stared out the window at the passing cars
“What do you mean?” Nicolas sat still and stared at the back of my head
“Every time you use a spell out side of its element it takes a lot more energy and will power to create it then normal. Causing a person to get week and tiered. The spell I used was a water spell and in the desert with out some kind of water source it takes a lot to gather moocher from the air.”
“Can you teach me that?” his head between the two seats.
“Yes I can teach you but you should set back.”
“YA YA.” He waved me off and sat back as we pulled out to the main street.
“We would not be able to return there for a while,” we turned into a small side street that looked a banded and forgotten for years.
“Sorry about that Destin.” I look up at his face as he looked around trying to find something.
“Don’t worry about it.” He pulled up to a tall white building with tall spires which we had to strain are necks to see the top as they reached for the sky. “This is it.” Destin parked next to the back door and we exited the car.
We walked up to the door and it opened before we had a chance to knock. A man about five feet with short red hair, and a brown robe that went down to his feet answered. He looked at each of us in turn and then turned to Destin with a smile. “It’s been a long time Destin.”
“Yes it haves and I am sorry it could not be helped.” Destin smile back at the man
“So what kind of riff raff did you bring with you now?”
“Riff raff, I am no riff raff.” Snapped Nicolas I put my hand on his shoulder
“Calm down. You must keep your temper in check.” I stated in a calm firm voice like my brother use to do to me. 
“That’s good advice,” the man was watching us from the doorway.
“Mark this is Kate, Nicolas, Midnight and the little one is Scarlet.” Destin touched each of us in turn with a smile “Really! Are you telling me that there sorceress?”
“Yes Mark and we need a place to stay for a while.” Destin looked up at Mark who looked really nervous as he scratched the back of his neck. I could see him helping out small kids and giving food out to the poor.
“I don’t know Destin the bishop was upset the last time you came by.” He stared down at his feet
“I’m sorry about what happened but this is different we need to see the bishop pleas. Kate needs to take the final test.” Mark looked up at Destin and then at us
“All right but you must behave I don’t wont the bishop to get up set. He is not a young man anymore.” Mark continued he turned and let us in side.
“Thank you, Mark.” Destin said as we stood in the hallway,
“Come on this way.” followed Mark down the dark wood hall to a large kitchen from there into a large room with several benches to are left and at are right a large starched of a man with his arms opened wide warring a red and white robe. There where several red candles burning at his feet. We continued past everything to another set of doors that lead to another hall with doors on either side of us. We sow other men who was warring the same chouse as Mark but they kept their distance from us or at least the wolves. We stopped at a large wooden door and watched as Mark knocked on the door.
“Come in.” said a deep voice from inside the room. Mark opened the door and let us follows him inside.
The room was worm but not unpleasant it had a deep red carpet and tapestries on the walls in front of us sat an older man about seventy reading over several papers with thick glasses on over his deep black eyes. His short white hair hanged down he had to keep pushing it out of his eyes. He looked up and smiled a genital smile at us. “Destin, I did not think I would see you grace my place again.” Destin bowed to the man
“Sir Cornwell. It’s a pleaser as usual.”
“You have brought friends with you,”
“Yes sir and we have a request for you.”
“A request? What kind of request?” Cornwell picked up a pen and started to write on the paper he was reading.
“Kate needs to take the first sorceress test so she can take on an apprentice.” Destin did not waste any time. Cornwell froze then looked up at me. I did not see any thin different then the man who let us in except a few more years.
“Very will and who would this child be?” he asked staring right at me
“Her name in Kate sir.” Cornwell motioned me to come closer. I walked up to stand next to Destin.
“I see very will Mark can you pleas show are guests to there rooms while I talk with Kate for a few?”
“Yes sir.” Mark showed them out Midnight stayed with me.

I was not aloud to talk to anyone about what happened when I was with Cornwell taking the test, which was making me very frustrated, but I couldn’t do anything about it so I just lay on the soft worm bed in a small room next to Midnight. I started up at the wooden ceiling trying to get some of my strength back and trying to stop the mild pain I felt from over doing my magic during his test. The door at my feet opened and Destin came in.
“How did it go?”
“He said that I will have the answerer hopefully in a few hours.”
“Ok.” He came over to me he lifted my head and sat down putting my head down on his lap.
“I would not worry too much about it I bet you did fine.” He stroked my heir.
“I’m not worried I just want to know if I am strong enough to keep Nicolas safe.”
“Just relax you need to rest Nicolas will be safe no mater what happens.” He smiled down at me as his fingers ran throw my long hair.
“I’m glad.” I drafted off to a deep sleep right in his lap.
