Child of the Dragon Chapter One

Destin

When I awoke again it heart to move and breath I opened my eyes and sow a large room with deep dark brown walls. A large window with thick black drapes hanged close in front of me. I slowly turned to my back side, and notice a large levees carved into a gold framed mire handing over a fireplace with a low fire in its hart there was a door on either side of dark hard carved red wood panels on the walls. The bed I was laying on was extremely soft and covered in thick-feathered white blankets. Midnight was asleep at my feet. I looked up and sow the four posts of the bed holding up a thin red fabric. I looked to my left and sow a panting of a red wolf and a black dragon behind it they where both staring at me from the gold frame of the oil panting.
The door on the right of the fireplace opened. I turned and sow Destin entering caring a tray with a plate of food and a bottle of something. He turned to me with a smile. His face looked tired and worn out “Good you’re awake.” He sat the tray down on the smile side table that sat on eater side of the bed. “How do you feel?”
“I don’t feel so good every inch hearts.”
“What do expect going up ageist a beast like that?” he was really irritated and upset at me.
“I just wonted to keep you and Nicolas safe that is all.”
“Will it’s a good thing Riken showed up and not anyone eels.” He sat down next to me
“Why?”
“Simple Riken is also a member of the Dragon Fang and he understands the reason we have to keep the boy safe.” Destin explained to me as he moves my hair out of my face.
“You don’t look so good.”
“I know don’t worry about that know. Hear you should eat.” He helps me to set up as he feed me fresh meet. I enjoyed every bite. When I finished I ended up falling back to sleep.
When I awoke again I found Destin lying next to me. I looked at him and his eyes where glowing. “What’s wrong?” he licked his lips and smiled at me.
“Are you feeling better?”
“Yes a lot better.” he neared me and put his left hand on my neck.
“Are you ready to seal are bargain?” I was unsure but I wonted to feel the piece, and joy as before. I craved it. I needed it and at this moment when everything seemed to be in a mess made me wont it more.
“Yes.” I sow a smile come across his face.
“Tell me do you trust me?” I sow only pain in him but no reason not to trust him.
“Yes I do.” he neared me, and put his arms around me pulling me close to him.
“Just relax and let me take your pain away.” his eyes changed to a bright white color as he turned me over to face the window. I sow him cut his own hand opened and then used the same nail to cut my back on my left shoulder. I felt extreme pain and then total utopias as he started to combine are blood and seal the wound with his bleeding hand. When he was dune I was so calm that I fell into a deep relaxing sleep in his arms that I did not want to wake from.
Days later I found my self standing in a light blue dress and light blue cape in front of Riken in his worm dark green audience chamber out side of his room with Nicolas kneeling at my side, and Destin standing by the door with Midnight and Scarlet.
“Tell me Kate how did your apprentice come to be with you?” I told him everything that happened leaving out what Destin is and the thought of how we where in cages to spare Nicolas. “I understand but you must remember that with out proof that your brother and father are behind the death of Steven’s familiar and them taking Steve and Tilley we can’t do anything about it.”
“But it’s true!” I snapped at him,
“From your point of view yes, but that is not how others will see it. They will think that you are seeking attention and are trying to gain power. So remember unless there is hard proof that this happened. You must not tell everyone what you have seen, or it could cause a lot of trouble for you later with the cancel. Do I make myself clear?” I took a deep breath
“I don’t understand.”
“Lesson this could cause a problem for all of Dragon Fang not just you. If the society get wind that the dragon child haves been found then they will try to catcher him and rip the dragon out of him. With out preparing the others we will have no allies and can’t protect him. Do you understand that!” he snapped at me as his eyes started to glow I could feel the power surrounding him. I did understand even though I did not want to believe it possible that some one would heart Nicolas.
“Yes Sir.” I said remembering that he is stronger then I am and so my superior.
“To make sheer Nicolas is safe. I need you to make him your first apprentice he needs that level of protection and with you as his teacher he will also have the protection of the Dragon Fang.” said Riken,
“Yes sir.” not wonting to argue with him. “First apprentice” I thought as I looked over at Nicolas who was staring at the dark red carpet under him. “Just what I don’t need some one eels bound to me.” I thought as I looked back at Riken
“Are you ok with this Kate?”
“Yes sir. There is no problem.”
“Good to here that. You can use the garden for your circle.”
“Yes sir.”
“Dismissed.” I bowed and we left the room.
“Kate what did he mean by a first apprentice?” asked Nicolas as we walked down the hall to the stairway leading to the living room.
“It means you will be bound to me so if anything happens to you I will know and can come and help you.”
“Where you anyone’s first apprentice?”
“No, I did not have the chance to. I was an apprentice in a school and not personal.”
“They have schools that teach magic?” he asked,
“Yes and there very strict on disciple, and on how it should be down.”  We entered the kitchen. I grabbed one large salt container that was on a shelf next to the sink and went out side.
“Is this connection dangerous?” asked Nicolas
“No, not at all.” I said,
“Kate.” I looked up at Destin
“Don’t worry it wont affect you or Midnight just Nicolas and me.” I started to create a circle once we entered the garden.
“Nicolas pleas come into the circle.” he was reluctant but obeyed any way.
“You three what there don’t break the circle.” I closed the circle. I used some of my power and sealed the circle. “Clausum !” I then created another, three circles in a flower shape, representing the trinity father earth, mother sky, and the life we use from them. I then turned to Nicolas “This is a power circle no out side spell can harm you in here. Please kneel and we will begin.” I faced him as he knelt in the center of the circle on the grass and looked up at me. “For this to work I need two of your names.”
“Nicolas Connell.” I sow the dragon looking up at me.
“Ok Nicolas Connell you must remember this. Like these circles so are we bound for one to the other so are we?” I felt the power rise in the circle I reached into my pocket and pulled out the pentagram Tilley gave me. “As the five elements of fire, earth, air, water, and spirit that’s with in us all. This pendent will show you the way throw darkness and bring you home from fear. Just remember the power that lies with in us all will always be connected.” I put the pendent around his neck. “Animosus -a –um ” I said and the circle exploded and entangled itself with the pentagram around both of are necks. “If you ever need me just call and I will come.” I put my hand on his shoulder. “Do you understand Nicolas Connell?” I could tell he felt something when I called his name be course he looked strait up at me. “Good it worked.” I thought,
“I think I do.” He held the necklace up so he can see it spin in the sun light.
“All you have to do is hold the necklace in your hand and call my name.” I watched him take the necklace in his hand and said “Kate.” When he did my necklace rose from my chest and pointed to Nicolas as it glowed brightly. “It works just fine.” I took hold of my necklace, and touched Nicolas on his shoulder and it stopped glowing. “Good now that is done. We can start your training.”
I looked around the yard at the tall different types of trees like pine, red wood, oak, and my fevered cypress. “Ok first you need to find a wand one that length is from your elbow to the top of your middle finger. You will now when you find the right one because it will feel normal to you in your hand.”
“From what tree?”
“It douse not mater you normal end up destroying your first wand with in a week. Now after that and you destroy your wand you will get in big trouble.”
Nicolas stared at me for a minute then turned and walked the yard with, Scarlet the red wolf, following him everywhere he went. Destin came up to stand next to me. I looked up at him and sow that he seemed better with more color in his face then the days before.
“Riken is scared what your brother and father are doing do you have any idea what they wont?” he asked as we watched the two run around the yard
“Why would they attacked Tilley and take my brother?”
“They where after the boy and since your brother ran there it’s not hard to understand why your teacher got stuck in the middle of it.” He put his hand on my shoulder.
“Your right and because of that they wont me as will.”
“Don’t wary I will watch over you.” He licked my neck, which sent a wave of calmness throw me.
“Do you think Riken is right could they be after the dragon?” I fear of the true power of dragon that lies quietly waiting inside of the boy are taken out of him
“I believe so.”
“But their haves to be more it seem pointless to just take the dragon out for no reason?” I stared at Nicolas,
“Who knows?” Destin said as Nicolas came running up with a stick that was perfect for a first wand.
“Will this work?”
I took it from him and looked at the strength and weaknesses of the dark red hard wood. I smiled at him and gave it back to him.
“Ok now you need to charge it with your power this will make it your first wand and no one else.” he stared blankly at me.
“How?”
“You have to put the power that is in you into the wand. This might take you several hours so you might won’t to prepare yourself first.”
“What, how am I to do that?”
“She means for you to get something to eat and use the restroom because you could be charging your wand for several days and you can’t stop in the middle.” Said a voice from behind us we turned and sow the man that drove the van that brought us here standing next to the wall. He had on a white t-shirt, blue shorts, and black tennis shoes. He was eating a green apple as he pushed his brown hair back away from his face revealing a deep set of green eyes.
“Who are you?”
“What do you think I’m just going to tell you my name? Give me some credit kid. You can call me Thomas unless that is too hard for you to understand?”
“You’re a jerk.” Said Nicolas at Thomas
“You little ass.” He pulled out his wand and pointed it at Nicolas before he could use a spell I had him disarmed, and about five feet in the air from where he was standing next to the wall.
“How dear you pull your wand out at Nicolas.” I snapped
“And who do you think you are?” he asked staring at me
“You can call me Kate or is that too hard for you?”
“I’m sorry I did not know pleas excuse my insolence sorceress.” Said Thomas I let him down and he picked up his wand and apple then bowed to me.
“Arch mage Riken wishes for you and your friends to join him for diner tonight.” He said,
“Thank you pleas inform him we will be there.” he bowed and left the yard.
“Why did you not heart him?” asked Nicolas as he stared up at me
“What would that prove?” I was looking at him.
“It would prove to him it’s not right to pick on me.”
“Then what do you think the Arch mage would do. Do you think Riken would be happy at me for punishing his apprentice in his house?” he was silent for a while
“No He would get upset.”
“Then ware would we be after that?”
“I don’t know?”
“Exactly it’s best to think ahead each action haves a reaction. This applies for spells as will. For example that simple levitation spell cost me some energy that I will not get back. If I sleep for an hour or two them I mite get back to the same level as before I did the spell. Do you understand?”
“So for each spill there is something taken to do that spell.” I smiled at him
“Yes you’re catching on.” he looked down at the stick in his hand
“So I have to put part of me into this stick to make it a wand?” he looked down at the stick in his hand
“Yes that way it will be part of you and wont coast as much to use a spell.”
“Oh ok.”
“Get some rest I will start you on your wand in a few hours.”
“Ok.” He returned to the house with Scarlet following him.
“Destin, I’m worried they might heart him.” I staring at where Nicolas entered the house,
“I know but you should not dwell on that now. He haves to learn to use his power.”
“Ya, I know. But I can’t help it there is something about him that wants me to keep him away from all this.” I wrapping my arms around my chest as I kept staring at the glass of the double sliding doors.
“Don’t talk like that it’s the connection you did to make him your first.” He said I turned to him
“I wish I could but it’s strong.” he came over and held me in his arms and cut my neck and started to lick it. All thought went out of my head and just the calming relaxing utopia of him came to me. When he finished I felt numb from head to tow and I liked it as he held me tight agents him.
“You must keep a cool head. You can’t let your feelings get the better of you.”
“He’s right.” said Midnight who I sow laying on the grass under a tree.
“Great I have been tagged teamed.” I turned to the cool grass that sat at my feet. Destin must have known what I was thinking because he helped me to sit down next to Midnight and he sat next to me on the grass. We then laid down on the cool grass and looked up at the bright blue sky above us as scattered white clouds roiled by from a storm that was coming in. I drifted off to sleep as a cool wind came roiling in from the north.
Nicolas came back and woke us up by chasing Scarlet around the yard. I watched him and Scarlet and wondered if he might be ready to have a Familiar. “Nicolas.” I called and watched him came over to us.
“I’m sorry did I wake you?”
“No, Pleas have a seat we need to talk.” he came over and sat down in front of me. “How old are you?” I asked,
“I will be eleven on September 2.” He sat there petting Scarlet sat on his lap.
“Tell me where did you meet Scarlet?”
“Scarlet is that your name pup?” he asked her as she waged her tail and attempted to lick his face.
“Calm down you.” Nicolas held her away from him.
“You did not know?”
“No. She followed me home from the park the same day.” He stopped short. He tensed up and tears formed in his eyes.
“Lesson I understand that some thing happened to you but you must not worry about that now you must look ahead and focus on getting strong in magic.” he looked up at me and wiped his eyes with the back of his blue shirtsleeve and wiped his hands on his brown prance.
“I miss my family even though they tried to kill me.”
“What do you mean?” he looked up at me.
“After school I came home to find that my father’s car was in the drive way he was home early. I walked up to the door and before I could open it my dad did he with caring a stick that he pointed at me.”
“What kind of stick?”
“It was bigger then this.” He said, showed me his wand
“You mean a staff. About the length as your father is tall?” asked Destin as he sat next to me.
“Yes and there were carvings and a crystal on top.”
“Dam things just got worse.” I said,
“What do you mean?” Nicolas stared at us
“Nothing for you to worry about at the moment you will need to make your wand first.”
“Ok but how?”
“First get the salt and create a circle that is big enough for you to sit down in.” Nicolas stood up and left the yard to go into the kitchen for salt.
“His father is a cleaner that is odd.” Said Destin
“Your telling me is this is true then the society knew about him for a long time. Those cleaners are mean they hate people who use magic that threaten to expose us.”
“You should know all about that.” He said staring at me
“No, I lucked out Riken dealt with them in my behalf.” Nicolas returned caring a salt container. He came over and sat back down in front of me.
“You need to make a circle around you. Go over it a few times with the salt to make sheer there is no gaps.” he stood and did as he was told. “Ok now pull out your soon to be wand and sit it in front of you.” he did that to. “Ok now you must find the sores of your power so put your hand in the middle of your chest and close your eyes.” again he did as he was told. “You should start to feel a worming feeling gust under where your hand is.”
“I think I feel it.”
