Hayley's point of view
This time Ian had remembered his duties and went shopping before I came home from school.
Smiling I pat him on the back while he was doing his homework.
" Hayls...", he whispered. " I... "
"What's your problem? ", I wanted to know.
He sighed and rubbed his eyes. " Remember when Annie had been sick three weeks ago and I had to take her to the doctors because you were having this test? "
I nodded and a bad feeling saddled in my stomach. " What about that? "
" The next day we wrote a test. Guess how it ended. "
Rubbing my neck I stared at the document. F was written over half a page.
"I will speak with mum. She won't dare to make any trouble. "
My brother smiled worried. " I'm so sorry for wasting all your time. "
"Hey! ", I kneeled down next to him and tried to catch his eye. "You ain't wasting any of my time. And even if you were it would be worth it."
I huged him. "I will speak with mum. And with your teacher. "
He smiled relieved. " Thanks, sis."
I just shrugged. " That's what I'm here for. "
With that I stood up and walked up the stairs to find my little sister playing with my cloth while her brother sat on my bed, chocolate all over his face, and laughed his ass off. "I'm home. ", I said and they looked up.
"Don't I look pretty? Just like you! ", Annie screamed and I could not be angry.
"Yes, princes, you are beautiful. "
After I removed all the chocolate from Ben's face and clothing, after a lot of screaming and 'but I don't want to', by showering him and after the cloth found their way back into my wardrobe, I placed my siblings in front of the television.
" One hour! ", I growled and they nodded smiling.
I rolled my eyes. As if they would turn it out after that hour. But I did not get tired telling it to them all the time. Maybe one day they will actually do as told.
Checking the time on the citchen clock I ran up the stairs, showered quickly, changed into more casual cloth and left the house grabbing a bottle of water, my phone and my keys.
" I'll be back in time. ", I screamed before the door closed behind me.
I rushed over to the local community service.
For about half a year I had worked at the community service in my home city, Cansasas City as a translater.
Now, I tried to apply for a job at the service here in New York.
" Hi, I'm Hayley Smith. I'm having a meeting with Mr. Brown. ", I explained to the secretary girl. She nodded and described the way to me.
Nervously pulling at my clothes I waited until I was allowed to enter the room.
Sitting there at one of this big, leather seats where only the boss is allowed to sit at, sat an quite old, grey haired men who looked at me with kind eyes.
"So you are Hayley? ", he asked.
I nodded.
" Daughter of James Smith? "
" Yes. " My father had been a in this business quite well known author so it was no wonder Mr. Brown knew him.
"How is your dad?"
I swallowed hard and looked him into the eye. "Well, I hope he is fine now up in heaven. "
Hos face dropped. " Oh god, I'm terribly sorry! ", he apologized.
" It's okay. ", I said.
" So, which languages do you speak? " That was typical - he just went on with business.
"I'm speaking English, German, French, Dutch and Italian. Spanish is on hold but not good enough for translation yet. ", I explained.
Hw nodded. " That's good, that's good. We could need the German, the Dutch and the Italian. "
I smiled.
" Then - show me your skills. "
The next half an hour I spent translating different texts into English or the other way round. It was easy. I always loved languages and had always been good at them.
"I'm impressed! ", Mr. Brown said and I smiled.
" Welcome in our team! I will send you documents to translate and we would need your work every Tuesday and if you like even on Fridays? "
I nodded "Tuesday and Friday is great. I'll leave you my number. "
With that I stood up, we shook hands and I left the building feeling incredibly relieved.
" I'm home! ", I screamed coming into the house.
" We're hungry! "
Of course, nobody asked me about the application, all they cared about was their wishes.
"Television off, now. ", I ordered.
" Ian, you help me with the vegetables, little ones you lay the table. "
Sighing they all got up and made their way into the kitchen.
" Why so hectic today? ", Ben asked.
I rubbed my eyes. " You know, I still have a bunch of work to do. That's why we have to hurry a bit today. And it's already half past seven so it's soon time for you to go to bed, Darling! "
" It seems like we have to hurry every day. ", Ian sighed.
I rolled my eyes. " Just cut the zucchini. "
It took about twenty minutes more, but then we were finally able to sit down at the small table in the living room and ate our nuddles with tomato sauce and zucchini out of plastic plates.
