intro - c418

"you're so fucking annoying, mahi."

you laid in your shared filthy sewer hammock as mahito begged on his knees beside you.

lately, your brother had insisted that the plan that he and his friends were formulating were truly worth the effort, and that you'd get it if you came along just once. you had no desire to work with them, finding their aspirations for humanity to be silly and worthless.

"it'll be quick, i promise. we'll be in and out before you know it," he whined and cried for you to concede, but to no avail as you paid him no attention, swinging back and forth in your hammock with your eyes blissfully closed.

"that building is flooded with sorcerers. at best, they've had countermeasures ready since the school was developed. they'll know before we even step foot inside the perimeter," you said. "i've never wanted anything to do with it, anyway. certainly not after what you did to junpei. you're wasting your time."

mahito twiddled his thumbs nervously and awkwardly nodded. he looked back up to you with hope in his silver eye, and embarrassment in his blue one.

"i know, i know... but i did apologize for what i did already. i get that you two were close, but he was just a human, y'know?"

you opened your eyes to glare at him. "you're on thin ice right now."

he held his hands up in defense. "okay, okay. hear me out. you're stronger than me, and you already know that if i die, then you die too. why not come along and make sure that i don't fuck up and get hurt? i don't think you're prepared to die yet."

"i've been prepared to die for our entire life," you snappily responded. he looked down in disappointment, and you groaned and sat up. "however, too many people are depending on you, and it'd be my fault if i let them down." you hopped out of your hammock and walked past him towards the exit of the tunnel.

"don't expect me to get into unnecessary fights, but i'll protect you if i need to."

even though your back was turned to him, you could feel the large grin that spread across his face as he stood back up on his feet.

"you're the best, y/n."

"i know."

he turned around and ran off in the opposite direction of you, leaving you to think on your own. even though you still had no interest in going, mahito was biologically your twin, and he deserved to be happy at least once a week.

what was the worst that could happen?

-

mess around - cage the elephant

the worst was happening.

you didn't see a big problem with all the sorcerers being in one spot, as none of them could really hurt you. the only risk you had at the moment was being seen and challenged, and that was not what you needed.

you had also been praying that mahito could pull off whatever he had planned. he probably would, as he's a very capable curse, but he also had a tendency to get distracted. which wasn't his fault. you knew that you were both relatively young curses, and the differences in abilities is what pushed you ahead.

not only that, but if he ended up failing, he'd be whining all the way home. which would fucking suck.

"i wish he'd get his shit together, honestly! god, i can't wait to strangle him." you muttered and stomped around the school grounds towards where you believed the exit was. you couldn't remember where the exit actually was when mahito insisted that you all enter from the roofs.
