(we back 🙏🙏)
"you ruined everything, you know that." mahito told her.
"i didn't mean to," she mumbled.
"maybe not. but you might just be lying about that as well." mahito shrugged and continued to pace in circles around y/n who sat hopelessly on the ground.
"what more would i have to lie about?" she nearly cried. "it wouldn't make any difference."
"maybe you're just protecting the final pieces of yourself that can still be considered good."
"i can't help that i fell in love with him, mahito."
"but you could. if you had just listened to me-"
"i didn't listen to you," y/n spat. she looked up to finally meet mahito's eyes, glaring at him. "i know that, alright? how much more do you have to drill it into my head that i messed up? how many times do you want to hear me say that i regret what i did?"
"as many times as it takes for me to feel better."
it seemed like no matter how many tears fell down her face, mahito wouldn't budge. he seemed confident that she still hadn't been punished enough, and that watching her be humiliated even more and plead for his forgiveness would do the trick.
"haven't i begged enough?"
"i get to decide that."
"why should you decide anything? you're no better than me."
"i'm no better?" he laughed. "you think you have something that makes you better than me? some fake morals that you stole from the humans and clean clothes don't make you better."
"not having the desire to kill does."
"are you forgetting-"
"obviously, i didn't forget! how could i..."
"then why say anything?"
"just because i killed once doesn't mean i want to do it again," y/n said, letting go of a breath. "but you... you need it to survive."
mahito chuckled out of spite, not letting y/n's words get to him.
"you're right. i do need it. i only wish you'd gotten in the way of it more often."
"why's that?"
"then, i could've killed you too."

y/n sprung up in bed, trying to wipe her face of tears but finding only sweat instead. her hair was a mess as a result of her tossing and turning. she pressed a hand to her forehead to try and calm the headache, but it didn't help much.
she turned to look out the windows to see the orange sky shining through the thin white curtains.
she pulled herself out of bed, throwing her feet to the side and shaking the aching feeling out of her body. y/n wandered through her quiet and empty home, feeling the cold hardwood under her feet. she shivered as the near freezing air hit her body, slipping underneath her small cami and shorts. her goosebumps were all over her arms and her body went a bit stiff from the sensation. she found herself in the kitchen, where she pulled a glass cup down from the cupboard and easily filled it with filtered water from the sink.
she took small sips, leaving the kitchen quickly to make her way to the living area, where she leaned against the windowsill with her arms crossed. she stared through the clean glass panes to watch the subtle movements of the spacious landscape around her.
