"For I do believe that everyone has one chance."
- 'The First Day's of Spring,' by Noah and the Whale"So, how will the seating arrangement go?" You asked, trying to ignore the rain on the windows. After discussing the plan the night before (the plan; which you thought was a terrible idea, but decided not to comment on), you all agreed on what was about to happen. Killua and Gon would tail the Troupe, purposefully getting caught, Leorio would turn the lights out once the clock hit 11 P.M., and then Kurapika would kidnap the leader.
You were in charge of getting the note to Pakunoda, which you planned using paper airplanes and some Nen. "When, uh, the leader gets here? I mean, Melody and Leorio are going to be up there, and then the three of us will be back here, so am I next to the leader or are you next to him?" You pointed the question to Kurapika, hoping that he would be able to answer the question.
"You'll be sitting next to the window, away from him," Kurapika answered, pushing the glasses up the bridge of his nose. He was wearing a disguise, which made him look more like a girl, but it was a precaution.
"Got it sir," you snapped your fingers above your head, before resting a hand on the back of your neck. Looking over at Gon, you tried to push the thought of failing out of your head. It was a big chance, if you succeeded you would be surprised beyond belief.
Kurapika was on the phone with Killua, who was meeting up with Melody somewhere near their base. You tapped your foot on the car floor, trying to wiggle any nervousness out. You talked to him before he left, making sure that he would somehow make sure you knew he was alive. Maybe he would bite his tongue or some variant of that. After a chaste kiss on your cheek, he jumped out of sight, as silent as ever.
Leorio soon pulled over to the side, putting the car in park and began eating a sandwich. Once Gon's phone rang, you leaned in to hear what it was about. You couldn't, but you heard what Gon said in return.
"Hey Killua," and, "she is?" Before he let out a long groan. "What does he look like?"
Kurapika asked for the phone, which Gon quickly gave him, and began talking to Killua. "Where are you now?" He held out a map in front of him and continued to listen to what Killua was saying.
"Hey Gon," you looked over to him, calling his attention, "what was Killua saying?" Since you couldn't hear it through the phone, you decided to just ask him directly.
"He said that the Pakunoda and Nobunaga were there and he began describing the leader," you nodded to his words, asking him to describe the leader, using what Killua said to him. "That he had slicked back hair and that he was wearing a long coat with an inverted cross on it."
"Weird," you tried to think about what it could mean, but couldn't come to any conclusions. Maybe the coat was just on sale when he was shopping, or maybe he just stole it. Or, if the Phantom Troupe were from Meteor City maybe it was just thrown away there.
Kurapika leaned away from the phone, telling Leorio to head East.
"Alright!" Leorio shoved the rest of the sandwich in his mouth, quickly buckled his seat-belt, and started driving off.
The car made a low hum as it moved, which steadily began to annoy you. Leaning your head against the seat, you looked out the window. A year ago, you would've been in school, most likely in geology and now? You were part of a crazy plan to capture a famous, once thought deceased, criminal. Lovely.
"Why aren't there any other cars? For such a big city, you would think there would be more cars on the road," you tried to lighten the mood, the silence was deafening to your ears. "Or maybe it's because it's raining?"
