Y/n POV

"Well, if it isn't the Star-Spangled Man With A Plan. And what is your plan today?" Colonel Phillips jokes

"We need the casualty list from Azzano" Steve demanded

"You don't get to give me orders, son"

"We just need one name, Sergeant James Barnes from the hundred and seventh" I say

Colonel Phillips points to Peggy, "you and I are gonna have a conversation later that you won't enjoy"

"Please tell me if he's alive, sir. B-A-R-" Steve starts before being interrupted

"I can spell," there is a log silence, in the distance you can hear soldiers yelling, the rain is beating on the tent, the Colonel lets out a sigh before starting, "I have signed more of these condolence letters today than I would care to count. But the name does sound familiar. I'm sorry"

I stepped back, he had promised to come back, even when I told myself to not get my hopes up, I did.

Steve looked over to see my face, then back to Phillips, "What about the others? Are you planning a rescue mission?"

"Yeah! It's called winning the war." the Colonel said with sarcasm

"But if you know where they are, why not at least-" I start before being interrupted

"They're thirty miles behind the lines. Through the most heavily fortified territory in Europe. We'd lose more men than we'd save."

Phillips walked away, me and Steve look at the map to see where the men are located, we ran away without looking back.

I change from my nursing uniform, into something more comfortable. Peggy walks in on me and Steve packing our bags, "What do you plan to do? Walk to Austria?"

Me and Steve look at eachother, "If that's what it takes" I say

"You heard the Colonel, this guy is most likely dead"

Me and Steve walk to a jeep, with Peggy following us, "You don't know that" Steve said, putting his bag in the jeep.

"Even so, he's devising a strategy. If he detects-"

"By the time he's done that, it could be too late!"

I get in the passenger's seat of the jeep, "You told me you thought I was meant for more than this. Did you mean that?" Steve asks

"Every word"

"Then you gotta let me go" He says as he closes the door

Peggy lets off a sly smirk, "I can do more than that"

Me, Steve, and Peggy are in one of Howard Stark's helicopters. Peggy explains the plan to Steve, about where he's going to be dropped, where the HYDRA base was, and any other important information. Until we were interrupted by shooting from around the helicopter, Steve went over to open the plane door.

"Get back here! We're taking you all the way in!" Peggy yells to him

"As soon as I'm free, you turn this thing around and get the hell outta here!" Steve yells about to jump

"You can't give me orders!"

"The hell I can't! I'm a Captain!" He says as he jumps out of the plane, just like that he was gone. Stark did just as Steve asked, he flew the helicopter out of harm's way to safety.

After getting away, and sitting for a few moments in silence, Howard asks, "So...fondue?"

Peggy sits down in her leather chair lets out a long sigh, not looking to Howard, "yes, sounds delightful"
