Italy, November 1943

3rd Person

"How many of you ready to help me sock old Adolf on the jaw?" Steve asked the crowd of soldiers, there was no reply, "Okay. Uh... I need a volunteer"

"I already volunteered! How do you think I got here?" a soldier in the crowd jokes, everyone laughs, "Bring back the girls!" he says, everyone cheers in agreement

Steve gets uncomfortable, "I think they only know the one song. But um-let me-I'll-I'll see what I can do"

"You do that, sweetheart!"

"Nice boots, Tinker Bell!" a soldier yells, going along with the jokes

"Come on, guys. We're all on the same team here" Steve yells

"Hey, Captain! Sign this!" The soldier pulls down his pants, the crowd laughs as things get thrown at Steve's shield, someone repeats to him to bring back the girls as he runs off the stage. I smile as he runs off stage to me.

"Not so bad" I said

"Thanks," Steve said with sarcasm.

Y/n POV

A few hours later, I found Steve sitting at the edge of the stage. It was raining, I walked over and sat next to him, looking over at his drawing. It was a talent he always had. He would draw little random doodles of things, sometimes he would draw me or Bucky, sometimes he would draw me and Bucky together, and after that would complement us on how perfect we are. I sat next to him, we didn't talk but it was nice, it was quiet.

I had just finished assisting some soldiers that had come back from war, when I got a break.

"Hello Steve, Y/n"  Peggy said behind us, me and Peggy had grown close, the few times I saw her.

We both turn around to Peggy, "Hi"

"Hi" Peggy repates

"What are you doing here?" I ask

"Officially I'm not here at all. That was quite a performance Steve"

"Yeah. Uh... I had to improvise a little bit. Crowds I'm used to are usually more uh... twelve"

I let out a little chuckle, "He's America's New Hope"

"Bond sales take a ten percent bump in every state I visit"

"Is that Senator Brandt I hear?" Peggy jokes

"At least he's got me doin' this. Phillips would have had be stuck in lab"  Steve says

"And these are your only two options? A lab rat or a dancing monkey? You were meant for more than this, you know?" Peggy tells him Steve is about to say something before stopping himself

"You know for the longest time I dreamed about coming overseas and being on the front lines. Serving my country. I finally get everything I wanted, and I'm wearing tights"

An ambulance siren goes off as medical staff pulls out a wounded soldier, "They look like they've been through hell" I mumble

"These men more than most. Schmidt sent out a force to Azzano. Two hundred men went up against him and less than fifty returned. Steve's audience contained what was left of the one-oh-seventh. The rest were killed or captured"

I look to Steve, who looked from the ambulance to me, "the one-oh-seventh" Steve repetes

"Oh my god" my eyes were wide open when Steve got up and ran to Colonel Phillips tent, me and Peggy not far behind.
